slipper at school

OP posts:
Sassyfrassy · 07/03/2012 21:47

I grew up in Sweden and everyone took their shoes off inside. Most of us had slippers to wear, including the adults. Much nicer not to have to wear shoes all day long and does keep things cleaner.

SarahStratton · 07/03/2012 21:48

We had indoor shoes, like little leather ballet shoes. It's a good idea imo.

schmee · 07/03/2012 21:51

That is one hideous carpet. But the principle of wearing slippers indoors I have no problem with.

FeedZombieEatSmartie · 07/03/2012 21:58

Hahaaa at the

"it's running the risk of our children stubbing their toes or stepping on something sharp like a drawing pin and injuring themselves."

I didn't realise slippers made children more clumsy. Or didn't have soles.

Backforgood, I can't decide if you're joking with your h and s comment. But if not you've given me the best laugh all week

Lone dissenting voice - I hate slippers. Carpets in a school - why ?

Piccalilli2 · 07/03/2012 22:13

Dd1's school has this and I think it's quite sensible. They have outdoor shoes which are left in the cloakroom, indoor shoes in pe bag on peg. They can wear whatever they like for indoor shoes, most of them have pumps or crocs. It keeps the mud and dog poo mostly out of the classroom

GladysLeap · 07/03/2012 22:20

I think it's a great idea. We are a no-shoes-in-the-house family. I went into school this morning for Stay and Play and thought how uncomfortable my 4 yo looked sitting on the floor playing with toys with her shoes on.

BackforGood · 07/03/2012 22:22

Thisisyesterday "Most" Nurseries don't do this. In the course of a year, I go into probably about 50 Nurseries. There is one of these that makes people remove shoes. Hardly 'most'.
Re safety - slippers don't tend to have grips - there are rooms which will not have plush carpets on the floor (I'm suggesting the hall and the toilets, even if corridors are carpeted) that then becomes a sliding heaven for children (have you not seen Peter Kay talking about dcs at weddings ?). That's the only hazard I can see for people in sensible slippers, but have you seen some of the clippity clopitty heeled ones some children wear. Not all dcs are the dcs of sensible MNers you know.Wink

Oh, and what about going into the toilets.... wet floors etc..... have you been in a Primary school toilet towards the end of a day recently ?

startail · 07/03/2012 22:25

We wore white lace up daps in school and had to change every break time. I dyslexic I'm still really slow at bows. I was always last.

hmc · 07/03/2012 22:27

I don't even wear slippers at home - I go barefoot. Slippers are right there with elasticated waists and facial hair. They should be illegal ( shudders)

juniper904 · 07/03/2012 23:18

I always kick my shoes off as soon as the kids are out, and walk around in my socks.

Children love taking their shoes off! It's far more comfortable.

The idea of staples being dangerous is daft- children go bare footed for indoor PE. They survive.

this is a marvellous idea - they should be encouraged to wear brocade smoking jackets

Why stop there? Cravats, cigarette holders and monacles should also be mandatory.

Imagine 300 juvenile Noel Cowards swanning about the place. It would be brilliant.

RachelWalsh · 07/03/2012 23:56

Doesn't seem that daft, both nurseries my son has attended asked children to have a pair of indoor shoes to change into.
