To think society needs a DaughtersNet or NieceNet?

In this child obsessed society, how often do you hear people under 50 talking about the needs of older members of society? I've heard some very sad stories about old people recently, especially those who have no-one to fight their corner. Sad It makes me weep to think of it.

So, as a society, have we become too obsessed with the younger generation to the detriment of the older generation? Do we need a DaughtersNet or NieceNet instead of a Mumsnet?

Um Daughtersnet or Neicenet would be for the younger generation, no?

Gransnet and Mumsnet for the Mums and Grans, yes?

Confused

The young'uns have Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Moshi Monsters, Club Penguin etc.

I don't get what you mean OP. But I do agree that we all need to take more responsibility in caring for elderly relatives and neighbours. I don't think we need more internet forums to do that.

On a different note my two would have a field day on AIBU on Daughtersnet

AIBU to burn the house down because my mother has gone to the pub and left us all alone with my dad?

AIBU to howl like a banshee because the evil mother took half of my billions teddies away because I would not get into bed. Don't worry readers, I threw a pillow at her. That would have learned her but she took that away too Angry

AIBU to wee in my bed and blame my older sister/the dog/cat?

Doinmecleaning - my gang would be well up for that too! All in phonics speak for now but quickly going to text speak!

What I mean is that we've become so blinded to the needs of the old and irrationally obsessed with those of the young. I heard of a woman whose DH is in hospital and the hospital are handing her soiled clothes daily to wash. She is ninety!

Must check out gransnet!!!

I've had the odd look at Gransnet once or twice.

It was quite sad - there was an AIBU post from a gran who's DS and DIL had denied her and her DH access to the grandchildren for ages, and they had hardly any contact at all. Sad

It was actually mentioned on the thread about linking it on Mumsnet so that DIL could read it and see things from the GP perspective.

Not the DIL necessarily but any DIL who had difficult relationships with their ILs.

Salmotrutta - that is so sad.. For every lousy MIL out there, there's another side of the story for sure.
