Recently bought a new oven - the old one blew up just before Christmas (well lots of blue flashes and stopped working) - and was rather constrained as to type because it was fitted. The new one is the same make as before but all computer controlled with a half inch thick handbook. (The old oven you just turned on, set the temperature and left it to it.)

So far, I've only managed to set the clock. After three weeks, I'm still using the microwave and the hob. Currently refusing offers of assistance because I'm determined to crack it.

Except - I mentioned the microwave ? It has a defrost function. I can see the words among the many on the front. Can I use it? I can not. Can't work out how to get defrost only among the 'plated meal' and 'pizza' functions etc. (The old microwave just had a timer and four settings: I may resurrect it from the basement.)

I now watch the washing machine carefully. It's showing no signs of imminent death but I just know that any new one (leaving aside the expense) is going to be virtually unusable due to shining displays and functions.

And I can't even discuss the steam cleaner (a recent treat.) It's out of the box but still disassembled while I try to get to grips with the handbook. (One page of small print safety instructions alone before I get to what fits where and how to turn it on.)

Is everyone else multi-competent on these? I'm feeling alonel-y thick.

Oh, you have to keep trying.

Otherwise, you'll turn into the modern day version of those relics who claimed not to know how the video worked.

Your new oven will become nothing more than a really big clock. Grin

guessing you won't be watching the video on youtube on the ipad how to set the cooker??? all joking aside as your online I'm assuming you've mastered the internet :-) there maybe a video online that would help - sometimes watching rather than reading instructions can really help!!

You're right obiwan. I'm a disaster area. The oven already IS just a big clock. (Well actually, a large oven and a small evil shiny clock.)

The internet is straightforward. I would just like a few (even one!) areas of my life to be easy.

My digital watch is still set to BST from last year because I can't be bothered to get out the instruction booklet to change it to GMT and I can't do it without the booklet. As we're nearly back to Summer Time, I'll leave it where it is.
