re school concert tickets

My dd2 is 7. she is taking part in a charity concert at school at the end of april. They've been rehearsing a lot, but she hasn't mentioned it till recently so I was not aware of it. Now it seems that all the tickets have all been sold. She handed the form in today with her big sis but was told it was too late. AIBU to think that there should be a way to guarantee that every child has someone there to watch them? She is only 7 and it seems that she is being penalised for my oversight. On the booking form there was no limit to the number of tickets you could request, so presumably some children will have the whole family watching Sad. It just seems so unfair on my dd.

What a shame.

DDs primary school had a good system for all its events - you could get two tickets, and then go on a waiting list if you wanted more. Perhaps you could suggest this to your school to consider for the future (I suppose its a bit more work for the office staff but ours seemed to cope).

YABU

why should they hold seats open. You had a date you missed it.

WorraLiberty · 07/03/2012 18:13

I feel sad for you OP but it's not the school's fault Sad

noonar · 07/03/2012 18:15

boney, there was no deadline. the concert is in 6 weeks time. there was no indication of limited ticket numbers.

but even if it is my 'fault', the punishment is being suffered by my dd.

worra, i just personally have a more child centred philosophy... like grimmas school.

The school is in a no win situation, if they limit tickets then people will complain, if they have no limits people will complain.

As sad as it is I don't think the school is to blame for it - I assume your daughter was given the letter at the same time as everyone else?

I would go into the school and ask if you could be put on a list if any tickets come up, or if you could possibly stand at the back to watch.

Fair enuff

apologies (((hug)))

Just having the joy of sorting similar out at my school and am starting to feel the pain. :(

noonar · 07/03/2012 18:29

Smile thing is boney, i am a teacher with a huge amount of experience. this would never, ever have happened in any school i have ever worked in. it would have been wholly unacceptable to put the child through that. if numbers are limited, this should be explained in advance and ticket sales handled accordingly (a la grimma, for example).

If we didn't limit the tickets to two per child per performance at our school, some children would have extended families of 50 or so watching them!

imnotmymum · 07/03/2012 18:35

Our school has a 2 ticket limit then anything over can allocate have you asked the school/pleaded/begged/ gave a huge donation to the schools charity

BoneyBackJefferson · 07/03/2012 18:43

The last time we put reserves on 2 family tickets we ended up with a half empty hall, it was a sham. We now put a final response date on the reserved seats.

I just assumed that everyone else does the same.

(and we all know why you shouldn't assume anything)

McHappyPants2012 · 07/03/2012 18:43

i think it should be 2 ticket per child, any more then you will have to go onto the waiting list.

child 1 may have only the mother could attend= 1 ticket
child 2 may have mum, dad, SD plus all grandparent (including stepgrandparents)= 9 ticket.

which is not fair as every child should have someone come to watch them preform

FizzyLaces · 07/03/2012 18:47

I'd phone up all the parents I know asking begging for any spares.

noonar · 09/03/2012 11:09

well, just to update this thread... i followed fizzy's advice and sent a round robin text. it seems that loads of parents are in the same boat and that the school have been too generous thoughtless selling unrestricted tickets on a first come first served basis and now lots of children and parents will be disappointed. i am going to broach this with the school, despite the fact that i now have a ticket. a lovely mum is giving me one of hers as she is appalled by the school's handling of the situation. a few of us are going to email the school and make our views known.

Could you ask the school to arrange a second performance? Or attend the dress rehearsal?
