to think that announcing your new relationship on facebook

after you have only seen someone 4 or 5 times, is just bloody ridiculous?

Slightly understandable if I were perhaps talking about some love sick teens but when you're in your 40's and have children, aren't you generally a bit cooler about these things?

Tonight he has announced he loves her, after about 3 weeks. Really? It is making me cringe.

I'm sure the romantics out there will say I am a hideous cynic and others will think it is none of my business, but that is why I am posting here and not being bitchy on facebook.

I find the Fb luurve stuff often a little too try hard.

One couple I know literally sit in the same room together or one up one down stairs and rather than have a conversation in person post random "I love u " on fb whilst having chat convo's with mates. I dont think they really get its not actually relationship replacement - or maybe its just me that finds it a bit hollow?
Another just say it so much on each other page its almost that phrase of "thou doth protest too much" if you know what I mean?

Mine says single btw - and will remain that way! LOL

(petal is too old and bitter obviously)

Spoke with a man on t'internets for a week.
Date 1- Thought he was an arrogant arse but there was something I couldnt quite put my finger on that I liked....spent the night together
Date 2- Met his parents and after managing to not run away screaming from them he told me he loved me (following day, I returned the sentiment)
Date 3- went as his plus one to a friends wedding. He semi proposed that night
6 weeks dating- I quit my job and gave notice on my house
8 weeks dating- I moved 100 miles away to his city and into his house.
13 months after first talking on Geek2Geek.com (I know) Our daughter was born on Christmas Day 2010

We're getting married in June...

Yes, it was fast, I still think he's an arrogant arse and when I look back I could honestly slap myself for jumping in so quick. But after 8 years of a slow mobing relationship with ex-H I wanted to do things differently. I had also been told I would never have children so becoming pregnant on ONE forgetful night felt like a sign to me Grin

Yes, your friend is sappy. Yes, its quick. But sometimes it does work and in the meantime ignore it and use FB for what it was intended for- looking at fat photos of your ex.

It's not so much a question of how long someone has been with a new partner but more the relentless way this stuff has to be posted Facebook nowadays. I know several people who are constantly veering from "in a relationship" to "single" - after each reversion to "single" there's pages of "u ok hunning?" and fucking "huggles" and round and round it goes.

Why do people want the whole world to know their relationship status anyway?

YouOldSlag · 07/03/2012 11:34

Worra- that made me laugh! it wasn't just me then..

My Little Miracle- your literal answer makes me know in my bones that you are under 40. Hope it works out.

HalfpastWine- Thanks for the tip.

I can forgive it when it's my DD's teenage friends going from 'single into a relationship' then 'in a relationship to single' a few weeks later but not for grown up people. I wouldn't change mine until he got down on one knee and that might never happen. So I remain 'single' even if I'm dating someone for a few months.

Cherriesarelovely · 07/03/2012 12:32

I don't think that is particularly soon to say you are in a relationship I had a similar feeling about my DP when I met her for the first time and that was 8 years ago. I wouldn't put it on FB though.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 07/03/2012 13:12

I think some people use FB as their own version of paparazzi as the real lot wouldn't be interested.

Good thread, OP - it looks like you've taken over where Simon Bates left off... we just need a tune now. Grin
