to let DD climb up the slide.

Am now completely unsure of playground etiquette.
Lovely afternoon here at the park but DD got told off by another parent for climbing up the slide instead of queuing like her DCs. Does it matter? Should I have insisted the DD only goes down the slide?

i had the answer recently at our local park..the slide wasnt slippy at all due excessive climbing of other peoples kids

i took can pledge and doused the slide.whipped a rag from my pocket amd buffed furiously

couldnt climb up it but as all the kids were hurtling down and flying off the end squealing with delight no one cared!Grin

yabu.

its not just mud, its dog shit too ime on the bottom of shoes in the park.

Disgusting.

Ghoulwithadragontattoo · 06/03/2012 18:05

YABU - As some others have said rubber soles wreck the surface of the slide for sliding. It spoils it for everyone else until someone has to clear the rubber crap off the slide.

PropertyNightmare · 06/03/2012 18:09

YABU. It is pretty chav (and me! me! me!) to let your child climb up a slide if the park is busy/mud covered. If no-one else around and dry underfoot then ok if you are happy to acept the risk of kid slipping and falling.

OriginalJamie · 06/03/2012 18:10

Eh? Unsure of playground etiquette? Do you barge through a door in front of someone else? Do you push in at the cinema?

YABU

OriginalJamie · 06/03/2012 18:11

And, BTW, you should "get involved" if your child is being antisocial. It's your job

OriginalJamie · 06/03/2012 18:12

BTWW - climbing up the slide is not a problem, per se. Pushing in is. And she'll get feet in her face one day

usualsuspect · 06/03/2012 18:13

Ok if no one is waiting to use the slide

No need for the chav comment though Hmm

yousankmybattleship · 06/03/2012 18:21

YABU. It is very selfish if it was muddy and other children were queuing properly. All you're teaching your DD is that she can do whatever the hell she chooses and stuff everyone lese. If it is dry and nobody else is using the slide then let her go for it. It is fun!

GrownUpNinjaWarrior · 06/03/2012 18:25

YABU. I spend all my time teaching my kids not to climb up slides or run in front of swings when they are little to avoid accidents, then they see another child doing it... makes me seethe with frustration.

Same as at soft play where the sign clearly says "No Climbing on the slide" and it gets ignored, someone always ends up in tears.

Whatmeworry · 06/03/2012 18:26

If others were using it at the time, YABU. Especially if DS was getting mud on it. If not YANBU.

iklboo · 06/03/2012 18:27

We used to grease the slide we played on with the inside of Warburtons bread wrappers (they used to be waxed). Sigh. Nostalgia as we flew off the end & got Tarmac rash on our bums.

forceslover · 06/03/2012 18:36

Live a little! Some "rules" just need breaking!

TheIIlusiveShadow · 06/03/2012 18:39

DD is only just 4, surely the playground is for letting off steam not following loads of rules and regulations.

If your kids are allergic to a bit of mud and lawn sausage maybe a soft play centre would be better.

The trouble with your DD ignoring all the rules OP is that it spoils things for everyone else.

TheIIlusiveShadow · 06/03/2012 19:00

She was n't running with scissors.

yousankmybattleship · 06/03/2012 19:03

No, she was ignoring the children who were waiting and getting mud all over the slide. That is anti social and it was your job, as a parent, to put a stop to it. How can she possibly learn if you don't teach her?

Most of those rules and regulations are either to prevent injury or to learn to rub along with rather than rub up others.

OriginalJamie · 06/03/2012 19:11

Illusive. I suspect you are winding us up

But just in case ... there are social norms and 4 isn't to early to learn them. One is waiting your turn.

OriginalJamie · 06/03/2012 19:12

too early

SlinkingOutsideInFrocks · 06/03/2012 19:13

You asked if you were being unreasonable?

Your daughter was being annoying. Now - annoying isn't a crime. She, nor you, have no obligation to stop her being annoying.

But, annoying people don't keep friends...

Rosebud05 · 06/03/2012 19:17

A 'climbing up slide' thread always signals spring!

OriginalJamie · 06/03/2012 19:18

I am remembering saying "up the steps, down the slide" ad nauseum to DS2 ....
