So we've had a few calls from those nice people pretending to be Microsoft engineers kindly offering to sort out the error messages being sent by our computer.

They almost got DH, but he decided to wait until I was home (I work in IT) and so told them to ring back.

Just now, they did. I spent an enjoyable eight minutes trying to get the guy on the phone to give me details on the error messages (times, dates) and names of log files, that sort of stuff. He got more and more desperate, threatened that my computer would lose all its data and so on. I asked him for his Microsoft Certification details. I also may have slightly laughed at him. After 8 minutes he hung up.

So I know he's just some sucker working a crap job in a call centre, but I figure if he's talking to me then he isn't talking to some gullible person who might actually allow him to remote access their machine, install malware or steal their identity.

Is it evil of me to feel this was fun?

i just tell them "oh do fuck off" and put the phone down.

I did that once. The guy called me right back and was very aggressive, asking me if I liked to be f*ed, he'd come round and do that when he got off work.

I had a call where they told me my IP address had flagged up on their system as having a problem (huh?). I played along with "oh dear" and then asked them to confirm which computer had the problem. He said "your computer", in a narky fashion. I said "but which one, we have four computers". He told me not to be stupid, called me a liar and hung up. I like to put them on speakerphone so we can all listen to the conversation :)
