AIBU to think that Florence (of And The Machine fame) must have some incriminating photos of someone at the BBC?

Seriously, the level of over-promotion is just absurd - endless trailers for her, heavy duty playlisting of every single bloody song off every album . And her songs make my ears hurt.

Why the totally OTT favoritism ?

(Disclaimer - I would not really accuse Florence of blackmail. But I'm buggered if I can figure out why she is on my radio all the time.)

Maybe she looks so old because she shagged Lemmy? That's got to be ageing. She and her mum did Family Values in the times a few months ago, and I swear they looked like sisters. Her music's ok, nothing amazing or era-defining. Just good to wail along to when I'm driving my car!

Inertia · 05/03/2012 23:50

I do appreciate that some people are fans - I guess it makes me cross that I listen to 6music which has a remit of playing songs which otherwise get little airtime, and the channel is saturated with FATM. To answer an earlier post - Pixies are my favourite band, but I don't expect to hear them every half an hour on the radio.

ThePathan - I always thought it was four hundred children.

I don't think she's THAT old looking. Still more shocked that Stacey Solomon is supposed to be in her early twenties. Good Lord.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 06/03/2012 00:15

Well, much as I would like to have Pixies radio, they're not exactly current, are they?

I know what you mean though. I did used to love the white stripes, but there is only so many times you can listen to seven nation army :)

TheCraicDealer · 06/03/2012 00:47

Particularly now that yer man from the X Factor has covered it Jareth (sigh)

Ribeno · 06/03/2012 06:33

LEMMY- how, what? Can someone please explain? I've tried googling florence welch and lemmy but can't find anything.

squeakytoy · 06/03/2012 06:51

I think she is very overrated, but prefer her to Adele who I think is quite an obnoxious person with a mediocre voice.

ComposHat · 06/03/2012 07:15

Powerful ain't necessarily good!

Exactly, I have argued this many times, her voice is like a foghorn, loud but lacking in subtlety or tone.

Although a great voice isn't a requirement for a great singer. Frank Sinatra wasn't technically brilliant but could interpret them so beautifully, imbuing his songs with such warmth and sincerity.

Florence just bellows out the tunes like a pub singer.

warmandwooly · 06/03/2012 07:54

Quite like her version of you got the love and like her song on the Twilight Eclipse song but other than that I don't think much of her. I prefer Lady Ga Ga

He also runs a fab campsite!

Proudnscary · 07/03/2012 11:39

I think Florence and the Machine is a derivative, style-over-substance, manufactured load of shite band - with a screechy lead singer who does my nut in.

GiserableMitt · 07/03/2012 11:43

I have a friend on FB who just raves about Florence; hoe wonderful she is, what a wonderful voice she has and how she's in love with her.
I finally clicked on on of the youtube links he posted expecting to have my socks knocked off and boy, what a disappointment.

MissM · 07/03/2012 12:31

I also think she's totally over-rated and gets far more press than is deserved. The Guardian are always banging on about her. I think she secretly wants to be Kate Bush but knows she doesn't have half the talent. Definitely Emperor's new clothes.

BupcakesandCunting · 07/03/2012 12:45

I think she's lovely. I'm not under any illusion that her music is anything other than pop music but it's the nicest kind of pop music. It's not about guns and bitches/letting your bloke do you up the wrong 'un/i'm like baby, baby, baby, nooooo. I like her image. She doesn't paint herself orange, doesn't go about dressed like an advert for a swinging club and is interesting to look at in that she looks different when most other pop girls are trying to look the same. She reminds me a bit of Stevie Nicks in the fashion department and I like that.

WannaBeWildCosMyLifesSoTame · 07/03/2012 12:57

I've never seen that before Bupcakes - thanks for posting, it's brilliant!

I haven't got an opinion on Florence but I love Neil Diamond, Dolly Parton and Johnny Cash.

BupcakesandCunting · 07/03/2012 13:01

Oh the Nine Inch Nails version of Hurt slashes all over Johnny Cash's version. Wink

ifeelloved · 07/03/2012 13:02

Bupcakes - you have a good point, whilst I think she's over rated at least shes clothed and I don't object to the DD's liking her - unlike some other female singers out there!

SummerRain · 07/03/2012 13:15

So far today I've listen to nirvana, nickelback, muse, tracy chapman, gnarls barkley, nine inch nails, aloe blacc, johnny cash and slipknot.

Florence's voice grates on my nerves

I'm 27 (til next week anyway)

Hope that helps the statistical analysis Wink
