AIBU to refuse to apply this rule to my daughter's big bowl of natural yogurt and ketchup?

Depends what she wants to do with it really

OldGreyWiffleTest · 04/03/2012 12:54

Most definitely. How did she come across that combination?

faeriemoo · 04/03/2012 12:55

Well, yeah. You can 'not like the idea of it', but to actually 'not like' it, without trying it?

Anniegetyourgun · 04/03/2012 12:57

I've never tried jumping off a cliff, but I think it's fair to assume I wouldn't like it. Not the end bit, anyway.

CardyMow · 04/03/2012 12:57

Depends if she is dipping strawberries in it or putting it into a burger...

faeriemoo · 04/03/2012 12:59

Anniegetyourgun you can assume you wouldn't like jumping off a cliff, but to say that you don't like it, it's stating a fact based on nothing...

EdithWeston · 04/03/2012 13:01

I think you have to try it, or you'll never be able to use the rule again.

Try dipping a prawn in it?

SarahStratton · 04/03/2012 13:02

No, no, I know I won't like tripe or kidneys. I don't have to try them, I know

Trills · 04/03/2012 13:02

Natural yoghurt can be made into savoury dips as well as eaten with sweet things, so I think YABU to say that you definitely won't like it.

SparkySparrow · 04/03/2012 13:03

What Edith said.

You can't ever say that to her again if you refuse to try.

Just taste it and then say you don't like it. Simples Grin

Enjoy Grin

SparkySparrow · 04/03/2012 13:05

Only as adult do you know you won't like something before you try it.

I don't like Liver. It has never, and will never get near my mouth!

DD2 has tried Dr Who's disgusting fish fingers and custard combo. She says it works, and is actually rather good. I have no intention of finding out, much to her disgust.

Unreasonably saying no is one of the few advantages of being an adult, and I intend to exercise it fully at every opportunity.

Zone2mum · 04/03/2012 13:13

Yabu. Sounds like a creative twist on Marie Rose sauce. Add a bit of lmon juice and Tabasco and enjoy with avocado and prawns!

fairyqueen · 04/03/2012 13:17

I was told by DD that I should try her sandwich during her 'nutella and marmite' phase. I declined.

SilentBoob · 04/03/2012 13:26

Depends what she wants to do with it really

She is eating it from a bowl with a spoon Hmm.

Her: May I have a yogurt?
Me: Yes, help yourself.
Her: Can I have plain yogurt from the big tub? Not little fruit yogurt?
Me: Yes of course.
Her: Can I stir something in to it?
Me: Yeah, if you like.
Her: Mum! You HAVE to try this it's delicious! I put KETCHUP in it!
Me: Umm... Yuk?
Her: Muuuum, it's rude to say yuk about food, and you can't say you don't like something until you've tried it.

She is 5.

She is not BU, however her expectations are set a little too high.

Anniegetyourgun · 04/03/2012 13:29

I still believe there is no onus on me to prove I wouldn't like jumping off a cliff by having a go.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 04/03/2012 13:31

It's pretty close to Thousand Island Dressing....

giraffesCantDonateBoneMarrow · 04/03/2012 13:36

annie yoyu are supposed to try a tiny bit - maybe try jumping off a tinyt cliff? or a large rock? just enough to sprain your ankle so you know you wouldn't like the multiplied effect?

CrockoDuck · 04/03/2012 13:37

Personally, I think you should try it. Then report back to us.

Savoury yogurt, hmmm? Could be a food revolution waiting to happen.

ChippyMinton · 04/03/2012 13:39

That's like a marie-rose sauce. Give her some prawns and cucumber slices to dip into it.

It's pretty good with pesto, curry sauce, cucumber & mint etc. too

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 04/03/2012 13:43

I use plain yogurt with lots of savoury dishes and to make a lot of savoury sauces, salad dressings etc. have never been so creative as to mix it with ketchup though

inmysparetime · 04/03/2012 13:44

It sounds pretty nice actually, I read out the conversation and DD looked quite interested in that comboSmile Thanks that could be a way to get more yoghurt down her.

mylittleponypinkypie · 04/03/2012 14:22

I tried nutella and marmite once, by accident. Once was definitely enough :o
