to think that The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel might be a cliched and patronising depiction of both India and getting older?

I'm going to see the film on Sunday and I hope I'm wrong. I read a lot of fiction set in the Indian sub-continent and hope to travel there one day, so happy to give the film a chance but not feeling all that hopeful having seen the trailer.
Has anyone seen it and is it better than I'm expecting?

I went with my mate and we both liked it, but we're both very late forties so Iguess it is aimed at the Almost Saga Generation.

There were some cracking one liners, but definitely q a few cliches, too.

I have a bit of a thing about Bill Nighy.

I read the book. I thought it was a bit trite and one coincidence in particular was ridiculous, but hey, I didn't really expect anything else.
DD saw the film last week with a friend. From what I can glean from her, it is disimilar.

I saw the film last weekend. It was a tad long, because it was a bit self indulgent in places. Overall I enjoyed it. It certainly allowed me to envisage the scene when I found myself dealing with an Indian call centre courtesy of BT this week.

However it rather reinforced my opinion that India does not attract me to visit.

I tend to like films set in Indian ? its an amazing place but I preferred Dev Patel in Slumdog, he was less ham. Celia Imrie has perfect comic timing; she set the bar high years ago in Acorn Antiques. Chuckled a few times but not at the racist character, Maggie Smith who had a strange personality transplant halfway through the film. I enjoyed it and during my visit many years ago there were an awful lot of beaming children playing cricket - honestly!

I am going to see it tomorrow night. I read the book 6 months ago, really loved it, great characters anda good laugh. When we had our meeting to discuss we had Deb Moggah there as she has a holiday home here! She had just retd from India, had been invited out to see the setting etc. She was very upset that they had changed her book so much, left out principal characters and even changed the name of the hotel!
