To say no to bringing pets into the office?

My workplace moved into the realms of the surreal the other week when a colleague asked if it would be ok to bring her grieving cockerel (Leopold) into the office rather than leaving him at home to pine for his lost partner...

I did have to concede that it was probably no more disruptive than my bringing my 8 year old in to work with me, but it just felt a bit too weird somehow...

My DD2's HT takes her dog into school with her. The kids love it. We should have more pets in work Grin

TidyDancer · 02/03/2012 18:52

I would love this to happen at my work. Grin

We have occasionally had dogs come into the office, but never a winged creature!

TeaOneSugar · 02/03/2012 18:54

I've shared an office with, a dog, a cat and a rabbit, not all at the same time, different offices over a number of years, I might raise an eyebrow at a cockerel though, I'm not keen on birds.

BrianCoxHasScaryHair · 02/03/2012 18:54

Poor Leopold.

Who knew that they felt grief? :( That's so sad.

Still wouldn't want him in the office though....bizarro!

Possibly silkies Lucy.Very pretty.

Must say I don't think I'd go as far as letting the chooks shit on the settee but they do sometimes break in and poop on the doormat.

I'd love to take them to work. They'd cause chaos.Grin

SarahStratton · 02/03/2012 19:57

My DD2's HT takes his dog into school too Grin

RevoltingPeasant · 02/03/2012 20:10

I misread 'cockerel' as 'mackerel'. I think I need a walk......

ZuzuBailey · 02/03/2012 20:22

We have a running joke at work that we should have a parrot to say to callers, 'your cheque's in the post'

Can cockerels talk? Our office is a bloody circus anyway without animals.

GrimmaTheNome · 02/03/2012 20:42

My dog comes to work with me but only cos I work from home.

Our proper office has allowed dogs in a couple of times - trainee guide dogs Smile. I hope anyone running an office would allow those.

kensingtonia · 02/03/2012 20:51

I used to work for a boss who brought her bassett hound to work. I used to walk it and take it the vet etc which was a welcome break, as I hated the job!

We have a rather eccentric gent in my current office who collects insects and has been known to bring tarantulas and exotic cockroaches to work!

maddening · 02/03/2012 21:38

could be a problem if anyone with allergies work there

GrimmaTheNome · 02/03/2012 21:41

yes, of course you'd have to check for allergies first. The trainee guide dogs were lovely though - you weren't suppose to fuss them but people seemed to change their route out of the office to just smile benignly at them Smile

Butkin · 02/03/2012 22:30

We only have dogs in our office - two at the moment but we used to have four. I'm not sure how a bird would go down but don't think many people would be against it if was quiet and wasn't too noisy.

countessbabycham · 02/03/2012 22:36

Is Leopold getting a new partner?

I think my cockerel would be sad too without his ladies. He does lovely "here's food" noises for them, and always makes sure they eat first.

I'm worried about poor Leo Sad

NeverKnowinglyUnderstood · 02/03/2012 22:39

I took my cat into the office for the day once, she had just been spayed and the vet said I couldn't leave her at home. She sat in her bed on my desk for most of the day Smile I think she was stil groggy from the anaesthetic

Mrsjay · 02/03/2012 22:43

Hollyfoot · 02/03/2012 22:52

We have had a horse in our office - I work in a hospital

..... on the first floor

countessbabycham · 02/03/2012 22:52

My DH did once bring our ferret in to work to see me.

He couldn't stay though as he was too smelly.

ToothbrushThief · 02/03/2012 22:53

I take my dog to work now and again (if I'm office based). He's no bother and the staff daren't argue because I'm the boss love him

ToothbrushThief · 02/03/2012 22:53

Holly footGrin

Hollyfoot · 02/03/2012 22:56

Someone said to me 'there's a horse in the corridor'

'Yeah course there is' I said

Someone else said 'how would it get up onto our floor?'

'In the lift of course' I said (being facetious).

And you know what? It bloody well did come up in the lift Grin

countessbabycham · 02/03/2012 22:57
