to think Sky have hit a new low

just seen a trailer for a show called the "love machine" hosted by Stacy Solomon and I think possibly Chris Moyles. Basically a chance for one person to reject 5/6 people based primarily on looks and insult them at the same time. I know they volunteer to go on but it depresses me that a) anyone would be that desperate to get on TV and b) there is presumably a potential audience for this shit out there. Am SO close to cancelling my subscription (only the Walking Dead on FX worth it at the mo)

Actually I think it sounds funny. There used to be programme called 'your face or mine' presented by Jimmy Carr - I loved it. It was about judging people on looks.
People APPLY to go on these programmes and people CHOOSE if they want to watch.
I think you need to unclench.

VonHerrBurton · 29/02/2012 10:28

Stacey Solomon who talks like Roland Rat and the unfunny, arrogant CM? Sounds a hoot.

MrsClown · 29/02/2012 10:54

I dont think you are being particularly unreasonable. It just sums up the state of this bloody country that people watch this crap. I cant stand Chris Moyles anyhow. Stacy is a sweet person but that is as far as it goes. Dont cancel your sub. I have sky and just avoid the crap. There will be an audience for it so let them get on with it.

mojitomania · 29/02/2012 11:18

If there wasn't a market for it they wouldn't produce it really would they I suppose. I personally don't watch those type of programmes but also think that people know what they're getting into when they sign up so don't feel sorry for them when they end up looking like complete twats. Grin

funkybuddah · 29/02/2012 11:27

You can get tx on virgin too. ;)

funkybuddah · 29/02/2012 11:28

Fx not tx bloody phone

scuzy · 29/02/2012 11:34

sure programs worse than that are on tv for a long time e.g. Geordie Shore my guilty car crash tv pleasure. its personal choice. if you dont like it dont watch it ... or cancel your sky if you wish (though that is extreme with all the other channels you have). plus i wouldnt want to miss the Walking Dead either (love love love that show).

trixie123 · 29/02/2012 22:29

sorry- meant to come back earlier - I am not "clenched" and as I said in my OP I do know people choose to be on it, I just think it doesn't say much that's good about our society that this gets airtime. Scuzy WD is the only thing that I will stay up past 10pm for. Smile Leaving aside the Andrew Lincoln factor, the drama is great - you actually don't always see the next plot point coming.

Synyster · 29/02/2012 22:30

surely you just don't watch it

runningwilde · 29/02/2012 22:40

Agree that the walking dead is brilliant - one of the best things on tv now - that and true blood!

squeakytoy · 29/02/2012 22:42

there are hundreds of other channels.. just because one programme on of them doesnt appeal to you, does not mean that other people should be insulted by it Grin

HalfPastWine · 29/02/2012 22:46

If there wasn't a market for it they wouldn't produce it really would they I suppose

True. However there is a market for quality productions too, pity that appears to be overlooked. There is too much crap being churned out these days. Cheap to produce, cheap to watch.

WorraLiberty · 29/02/2012 22:48

If they're rejecting people based primarily on looks, that's no different to any other dating show I've seen on TV.

Oh apart from 'Dating in the Dark'

On that show they got to choose their date without ever having seen what they look like.

Then they get the chance to dump them as soon as they see them Grin

trixie123 · 01/03/2012 07:27

surely blind date when it was on (whilst also ticking the "who the hell would want to be on it? box) at least by definition was not about looks (though the "reveal" always seemed to be the mostly hotly anticipated bit of the show and don't recall anyone being ungallant enough to say "urgh, minger" - from what I can see on the trailer that seems to be positively encouraged on this new one. Ah well, dig out the box sets of Pride and Prej (at least there the meatmarkets had nice music, dancing and Colin Firth Grin)
