to keep my children in car seats even though they're tall enough to go without?

Well, am I?

Both are probably just a bit over 135cm but I figure its safer for them to be in them than not?

At what point would it become less safe for them to be in one?

DD is 8, 137cm and looks too big on a booster.

I'd say she'll be out of it in a few months, she looks like she's about to grow again, bloody inconsiderate gigantic children. (DS1 is 6 and 127cm. Their trousers only ever fit them for about a week, then they have inches of ankle showing again.)

ChasingSquirrels · 27/02/2012 18:48

I have just googled mine and it has no height limit, just weight (36kg).
I know that ds1 (9y5m) is over 135cm although I am not sure quite what he is, but I have no idea what he weighs.
He is still in his, although he won't be for much longer as it is extended as far as it will go, so any taller and his head won't fit in properly.
At that point I am not sure whether I will go to just a booster seat (rather than booster & back) or nothing.
He isn't skinny (not fat either) and certainly doesn't look uncomfortable in it.

Does that mean that I should still be in a booster seat at 34yo and 145cm Confused?

My DD used to get leg ache on a booster seat, because it made her legs higher up so they kind of dangled around unsupported. Once she was out of the booster her feet reached the floor and she was way more comfy. Because of this we got rid of the booster as soon as she reached 135cm.

JugglingWithTangentialOranges · 27/02/2012 19:16

Hey, sparkling - I was only saying he likes being able to look out of the window !

That's from his perspective - and I reckon it's good he likes it as it may keep him slightly safer too.

Sometimes feels like you can't say anything on here ... maybe my tangential nature getting me in trouble again compared to those who like to live their lives (and conduct their discussions) on tram rails Hmm

Sparklingbrook · 27/02/2012 19:18

Well that's me told. Sad

Portofino · 27/02/2012 19:20

We've just stopped using ours as dd, 8 in 2 weeks, with winter coat, jumper etc barely squeezed into the booster seat. Are you saying she needs to grow loads more centimetres first?

JugglingWithTangentialOranges · 27/02/2012 19:22

Sorry sparkling but you did tell me first !

Maybe I was over sensitive - please don't take my response to heart

  • I'm sure we've come across each other quite happily before - perhaps on the word association thread ("Dam"...) ?
Sparklingbrook · 27/02/2012 19:29

I think I should have explained that this was said to me by a mother of one of DC's friends Juggling. And was in no way referring to your DS, but your post reminded me re the window thing. Smile

My first ever Hmm face I have received too. Grin

JugglingWithTangentialOranges · 27/02/2012 19:53

Ah, you see I thought that's what you were thinking about my comments.

Thanks for the Grin and sorry for the Hmm - though I'm rather found of my emoticons including a little wry raised eyebrow once in a while !

Sparklingbrook · 27/02/2012 19:57

I think we may have killed the thread Juggling. Grin

I am Blush that you think I could ever post anything as cheeky and bitchy as that. Grin

Anyway, have we answered the question yet suecy.

JugglingWithTangentialOranges · 27/02/2012 20:00

I'm a killer Queen Grin

JugglingWithTangentialOranges · 27/02/2012 20:06

Also you could have just meant you didn't think being able to look out of the window was a good reason to be using a car seat - so that wouldn't have been that bitchy ...

Also I don't remember what different people have posted (brain like a sieve - no chance of linking NNs and posts over time) - so please don't take our little misunderstanding personally at all.

It's just you have to query these things or you're left puzzling over them neurotically n'est pas ?

But ..

guaranteed to blow your mind !

Pow !!!

( Now, are you holding me liable for killing this thread Leonie ? )

But then how much more can you really say about how long kids should use car seats for .... ( valuable though such a discussion may well be )

Sparklingbrook · 27/02/2012 20:15

I won't remember either Juggling. You are probably right about the discussion going as far as it can. Grin

ihearttc · 27/02/2012 20:24

DS1 is 7 (yesterday!) and is 130cm tall and is still in his high back booster which causes great amusement amongst his friends...but quite honestly I don't care anymore! We've got a booster seat to use as a spare but everytime he goes on it he moans that he's uncomfortable so am sticking to what we've got for a while yet.

He's got much more than 5cm growing room left in the high back booster as well cause there is at least 2 more notches to put it up so I was planning on leaving him in until he actually grew out of it.

Also it actually stays in one place in the car and doesn't move around the whole time like booster seats do (It's a Maxi Cosi Rodi with a bit that attaches behind the seat-not isofix but a plastic clip thing) so for that reason alone it's much easier than forever moving booster seats...unless of course anyone knows of any booster seats that are isofix??

Forrestgump · 27/02/2012 20:30

Our 9 year old has been over 135cm's for a while, but her weight was the issue first, as the booster started to tip. I kept her on her booster for as long as I felt safe.
