Not to wear heels because I'm 5'8''?

I don't really wear heels (although I probably would if I was shorter as I think they are very glam) as I don't want to tower over DH, am I overthinking this?

I'm 5'9" and normally wear flats for reasons of comfort.

When I do wear heels I look very tall but lovely thank you very much.

scarletforya your Drag Queen comment is below the belt. If you think you look like a drag queen in heels don't wear them but you're not spoiling our fun Grin

fudgywudgy · 25/02/2012 19:32

I'm 5'10 and never wear heels as I would tower over dh 6'0

It has nothing to do with him being any less of a man (what a odd thought) more that he is slender and I am a tank so we would prob look like maw and paw broon.

We have to go to a lot of fancy dinners with his work and all the woman are petit skinny things so I do stand out, trying to find nice kitten heels is not much fun.

In saying that I do like my height on a day to day ballet pump basis.

I didn't know Nicole Kidman was on mumsnet, although Tom left you years ago get over it.

Seriously of you like heels wear them if you dont then don't.
I am 5'7 and have worn up to 5" inch heels. What stops me now is I am overweight and dont feel comfortable in heels now, I can maybe manage 2" but not all day and night any more.
And dp loves me in heels as he really likes tall women.

Raebeech · 25/02/2012 20:00

I'm 5'9 and tend to wear 1-1.5 inch heel during the day (I have a mile to hike to work over cobbles so I can trog easily at that height heels). But going out tends to be anything from flats to 4 inch depending on mood.

An old friend of mine was 6 feet even and wore 4 inch heels the whole time. And could still hike a mile to town faster than I could in trainers...

But at the end of the day go with what makes you comfy and happy.

I'm the same height and i don't where them much either!

Maybe a small heel if a special occasion and i recently bought some of those mini boot type things with a bit of a heel to wear that aren't too bad. Anything higher and i have the grace and poise of Miranda.

It's nothing to do with DH, he's tall too. I just cannot get comfortable. It's years of wearing flats. I envy people who can wear stillettos and look good in them.

I do get a shock sometimes when they take them off and appear to shrink to the height of Ronnie Corbett though Shock

EvenBetter · 25/02/2012 20:16

I'm 5''7 and don't wear heels, husband is the same height as me so I'd look like a transvestite looming over him (but minus the glamour), it might make other men think he has a big knob to be able to pull a leggy beaut!?
Also too clumsy & lazy for heels, kitten heels & pumps visually offend me..
But I do love the fantasy of being 6 foot tall in 6 inch heels & pushing drunken louts/bitches away (gently) by their foreheads, all Amazonian >sigh

UKSky · 25/02/2012 22:45

I'm 6'2" and used to wear at least 3" heels all the time. Now it's been too long and I can't walk in them anymore, which is a shame.

I used to love towering over people.

I occasionally wear them if we're going out somewhere special and I don't have to walk too far.

But, I'm lucky as DP is 6'7", so he's still taller

nobodyspecial · 25/02/2012 22:49

No, I don't wear heels because they're uncomfy. I don't have that problem with DH as the heels I wear aren't that high, but on our wedding day the photographer kept asking me to take off my shoes so I looked shorter than DH in pics.

JasperJohns · 25/02/2012 23:00

I rarely wear heels as they make me taller than dh who is a short arse only 5'10. Doesn't bother him as much as me!

As a result, when I do wear them I find it really hard to walk normally.

I admire my colleague who wears high heels with seemingly no effort. But when she takes them off her feet look a bit gnarled!

AnnieLobeseder · 25/02/2012 23:05

YANBU to not wear heels whether you are 5'8 or 4'8. Heels are the work of the devil and I hate them.

forehead · 26/02/2012 01:18

My ddi is nearly ten and is already 5ft 6 inches. She loves being tall and cant wants to be old enough to wear heels.
If I wear heels i am taller than my dh and i really couldn't give a stuff.

forehead · 26/02/2012 01:19

cant wait

StrawberrytallCAKE · 26/02/2012 05:13

Heels on tall women don't look great? Absolute bollocks.

Christian Louboutin makes his heels for women with long legs and he knows heels.

I'm 5"10 1/2 and I wear heels, didn't for ages because of low confidence but now I realise I look very good in them Grin
