to not really get beauty treatments?

Was out with some old uni friends last night, we catch up maybe 2 or 3 times a year. I'm feeling a bit flat today mainly because of the way the conversations went. One of our group has had botox. She's a good looking woman, in her early 40s and tbh I couldn't really see a difference but then I've always thought she looked good for her age. Anyway, as the night went on lots of stuff was talked about in regards to looks, weight, diets, fitness etc and I just found it pretty tedious. We used to discuss loads of interesting stuff but now it seems that all they care about is their looks and clothes. I'm 36 and the group ranges from 35 to 43. At one point I actually felt like I was being mocked because I admitted to not knowing about HD Brows (?) Am I a freak or are women in my age group becoming overly vain? It's really depressing me.
ps what ARE HD Brows so I'm prepared for next time Wink.

they sound very very boring people (not for having the treatments but for talking about them all night). maybe it was a one-off and just the way tht the conversation went that night but if it happened again i would be saying 'no thanks' to the next night out.

Meglet · 15/06/2012 16:44

HD brows are a bit 'emperors new clothes' IMHO. What's wrong with tidying up normal brows?

I get everything but them and diets. Tanning, clothes, nails, gym are all fun/ maintenance.

ThisAintKansas · 15/06/2012 16:46

I do all this beauty shit, but talk about it endlessly on a night out wit hfriends? Hell no. They sound dull as fuck.

ContinentalKat · 15/06/2012 16:53

Was it a bit like this thread, whiskey? Grin

I also think that you have outgrown these friends. I had to google hd brows. It's a strange world...

Birdsgottafly · 15/06/2012 17:06

What you feel that you want to have done to your brows, depends on what your natural brows are like. Mine are semi permanment, because i have hardly any and i have just gone chocolate for my hair colour.

Kate middleton has HD brows.

The dark one's have been asked for or are badly done, they should just be full and well shaped.

Perhaps they were just desperate for a female catch up and it got out of hand?I have more male friends than female and we (female) go overboard when we meet, because it is different to talk about beauty.

We cannot discuss work and don't want to discuss our private lives, so stick to a banal topic.

Mrsjay · 15/06/2012 17:10

I am stingy i wouldnt spend money on treatments but i dont think others shouldn't
I think its time to find new friends talking about clothes waxing and botox would bore me shitless tbh

EarnestDullard · 15/06/2012 17:13

Meh. Some people find talking about beauty routines interesting. Some like to talk about politics. Some like to talk about celebrities. Some like to talk about TV programmes. Horses for courses.

Just because other people are interested in things you find boring, it doesn't make them boring people. It just means your interests have diverged. So YANBU not to have beauty treatments done, and YANBU to not find them interesting. But I think YABU to judge anyone who feels differently.

EarnestDullard · 15/06/2012 17:27

Damn. Zombie thread. And I usually notice before posting.

landofmakebelieve · 15/06/2012 17:40

YANBU. I'd be bored to tears as well. As for HD brows?! Not the foggiest, never heard of them!
High definition? Horrendously deformed?! Who knows?!
Oh, and I've never understood the obsession with some people and how they'll shave off their entire eyebrow only to paint it back on again and look insanely weird! Confused

whatinthewhatnow · 15/06/2012 18:11

I just googled HD brows. I've had a bit of a shit day and those pictures really cheered me up. It reminded me of when me and my best friend from school used to use black mascara on our eyebrows because we didn't realise there was special eyebrow pencil that didn't make you look like, well, like those pictures I just googled actually.

I agree with the OP that as someone who spends perhaps 40 seconds blobbing make up on in the morning I can't imagine a much more boring evening than the one you had. ditto the food thing. I am now notorious for polishing off everyone's food. in fact at the last works do I went to people were giving me their left over chips without even asking me if I wanted them. I hate people who bother to go out to dinner but hardly eat. It means I either go without or I have to eat my starter and pudding with the non eaters watching me, po-faced. bleurgh.

Nuttyprofessor · 15/06/2012 19:50

I was never interested in treatments until I reached 50, now they are a neccessity.

I don't talk about them, better to pretend I don't have any.
