DodieSmith · 25/02/2012 01:23

If it's spelt wrong, but you can tell what the word is, it will still sound right when you read it, if the grammar is right. Whereas if the grammar is wrong the sentence will always sound wrong.

So YANBU.

verity I had to read that twice!

verityverbiage · 25/02/2012 01:30

It's amazing though isn't it?

Maybe spelling is like the line in the sand where if we step over it the English language will deteriorate into mindless babble on paper.

cornsilkakaka · 25/02/2012 01:30

yes it is amazing Grin

Tortington · 25/02/2012 01:39

no. i think you will find that is 'dope'

midlandsmumof4 · 25/02/2012 01:48

Grin at Veritys post. Got that first time. Dow understand the 'line in the sand' bit though. Maybe time to call it a night. Wine.

GrimmaTheNome · 25/02/2012 19:42

Verity's post is easy for anyone who remembers Codspeak.Grin

There's a difference between poor grammar and dialect. Tha' knows nowt about it. That is grammatically correct in my local dialect. My DD saying 'I could of done something' isn't dialect, its bad grammar. A small child saying 'I goed to nursery' isn't dialect, its correct small-child grammar but would be bad grammar in an older child and they'd get the piss taken out of them.
