And if I am, what else should I be drinking?

KalSkirata · 24/02/2012 20:45

depends on where you are. If its the US and its that ghastly Liptons stuff then yaaaay for the PG Tips

Vagabond · 24/02/2012 20:47

I used to pay £6 for the Sunday Times in Saudi Arabia - 6 days late and missing half the sections. YANBU. Home comforts!

chocolateteabag · 24/02/2012 20:47

YANBU - I lived in Japan for a year and managed to convert from a Marmite hater to lover just because it was something from home.

Mind you - I'd be asking them if they can get in some proper Yorkshire teabags Grin

Jacksmania · 24/02/2012 20:50

I'm Canadian (live on the West Coast, GMT-8) but have a British grandmother who educated my taste in spoiled me for any other kind of tea.

I did see Yorkshire tea - is it nice?

They even sell PG Tips The Strong One. My granny's favourite. She used to make it strong enough to stand up the spoon in it :o.

Definitely go for the Yorkshire tea, much better than PG Tips. I always take a supply with me when I visit my Mum and she only lives 2 hours away!

TheCokeMachine · 24/02/2012 21:36

I love my monkey tea! I can not leave the house in the morning without a cup of PG...YANBU.

Jacksmania · 24/02/2012 21:40

What is monkey tea??

OP posts:
TheCokeMachine · 24/02/2012 22:14

PG Tips is Monkey Tea - in the 70's the advers used to have monkeys dressed up as humans - not very animal rights and I think it got banned

LesserOfTwoWeevils · 24/02/2012 22:51

YANBU. I feel that way about Branston Pickle, or wensleydale with apricots.

Jacksmania · 24/02/2012 23:22

Oh dear not very PC at all :o but cute!

What does it taste like compared to PGT?

The one near me sells lots of M&S goodies. Bought their jaffa cakes as they were buy one get one free. I'm in Canada, but find that tea is easy to find here - most supermarkets sell PG or Tetley or even Yorkshire, but even the own brands are ok. They seem to call what we Brits would refer to as regular tea, Orange Pekoe here. Even the Tetley is labelled as being that.

Alligatorpie · 25/02/2012 04:52

Not a tea drinker myself, but as an expat, I get very excited when I see something from home!

flyingspaghettimonster · 25/02/2012 04:57

More and more locally stores have a British section now... which is good as they charge less than the British store. I resent paying $7 for a black pudding... and Yorkshire tea is way better than PG tips, not so muddy... I always think PG tips tastes like something Baldrick would serve. In blackadder 4.

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/02/2012 05:31

DO NOT BUY YORKSHIRE TEA bloody Northerners PG Tips is great. For some bizarre reason amazon.com are allergic to shipping lots of things to Canada. I'm in Victoria and have to buy everything in a few shops. I was ridiculously happy to find redcurrant jelly in 'Ethnic foods' in the grocery store.

Jacksmania · 25/02/2012 05:46

Oh goodness, even my local Save-On have redcurrant jelly. Bonne Maman brand, the one with the red and white checked jar lid.

Jacksmania · 25/02/2012 05:47

:o @ bloody Northerners!

YANBU. I may have done a happy dance recently on discovering that some French supermarkets have started stocking Tetleys.

Toned it down on discovering the price though but still bought it because French tea is crap.

Yorkshire tea is great.

Rosa · 25/02/2012 08:10

My yearly treat is a box from the British Corner shop it is Christmas all over again...... Mind you I am on holiday in Tenerife right now and any case space is going on tea, cathedral cheddar and burbon creams!!!

taxiforme · 25/02/2012 09:07

Lived in Cyprus for a year 20 years ago, happy for any scroungers to come to stay as long as they bought a 12 pack of Walkers cheese and onion, a mother's pride and some cadburys flakes yes and a massive box of PG. Twinnings Assam is best BTW as I am a northerner Grin

taxiforme · 25/02/2012 09:11

PS YANBU, the arrival of the Walkers Cheese and Onion actually sparked a riot and were changing hands for about £5 a bag.

rogersmellyonthetelly · 25/02/2012 09:13

I take tea bags with me when I go on holiday if that helps. Pg tips usually..... No one makes a proper cuppa like the Brits

HappyMummyOfOne · 25/02/2012 09:19

We should do swap threads, i'd willing part with PG for some proper chocolate Grin

Takeresponsibility · 25/02/2012 10:11

Yorkshire Tea is far better than PG Tips (and I am a southerner living with a Cumbrian who thinks anything from Yorkshire is beyond the pale).

I used to have to take my xSIL (in Niagara) decent chocolate, suet, lamb and mint gravy granules Blush and dairylea cheese triangles

Rinkan · 25/02/2012 11:05

They weren't monkeys, they were chimps.
I am in Hong Kong. Fortunately Yorkshire, m&s extra strong and Waitrose all widely available here, thank God. But a bit ironic when you think that it was China where the British got the tea from in the first place.

I also buy a lot of clothes online from ASOS. They are made in Asia, shipped to the UK then shipped back here to me Blush
