My MIL has just told me I'm really irresponsible and shouldn't risk it.

DD is 6 and will be in bed. Neighbour's dd is very responsible and at least one if not both of her parents will be in all evening and have told her if anything does go wrong to come and get them - semi detached house so only a few seconds away. We'll be less than 15 minutes away and on our mobiles.

But MIL has just put fear of God into me. According to her they will l both be dead and the house burnt down by the time we get back

We're back. House intact. DD still alive and fast asleep. Neighbour's daughter was also still alive and happy to earn a bit of cash. :)

We told you so Smile.

Nice that you've got another babysitting option for the future too now.

i would happily leave with a 13 year old sibling. but not with neighbours child. doesnt matter how responsible

No YANBU my babysitter is 13!!

IME fbnomore a teenager from outside the family is a MUCH better bet than a sibling, as they are percieved as a 'responsible person coming in to mind us'. Siblings are much more likely to fight.

Yanbu, I also babysat from age 13 for 2 little girls. I'm sure its fine seeing as there are adults nearby anyway.

Yeh! Hope you had a nice evening!

I worked in a shop at the age of 12 and babysat from the age of 11. YANBU.
