To think that cutting your nails on the commute to work is not on?!

I am sat on the ferry to work [stealth boast sorry!] There is a man two seats away from me snip snip snipping his nails! AIBU or is that just weird and gross?

I once sat next to a chap on the tube cleaning his ears with a baby bud. Foul.
Felt like puking into my own handbag! On the upside he did take the bud with him when he got off.

I was recently driving home (along the sea front which is not at all relevant but in keeping with the theme). I checked my mirror at traffic lights and the lady behind me took out some tweezers and started plucking her chin hairs!

Nails are minging though. I wonder if his OH won't let him do them at home.

Yanbu - that is rank

HillyWallaby · 24/02/2012 06:32

YANBU. Horrid.

HillyWallaby · 24/02/2012 06:33

Mind you, men with long fingernails make me queasy, so i'd rather he cut them on the train than not at all.

MrsSchadenfreude · 24/02/2012 06:39

I used to commute from Milton Keynes to London and there was a woman one day picking her feet. She had them up on the seat next to her and was picking off corns, bits of dry skin and her toe nails. She was very tidy though, as she ate whatever she had picked off. Everyone was watching her with fascinated horror. Shock

And there was a man one day who decided to floss his teeth on the train and bits of the mank from between his teeth were flying everywhere. Man next to him said "Do you mind?" Grin

Do these people think they are invisible?

DialsMavis · 24/02/2012 07:44

That is gross! We were in holiday in Dee Why this time last year and got that ferry lots Envy Smile

Pomtastic · 24/02/2012 08:36

Was once on a bus where the woman sat opposite was clipping/ filing her nails onto the flat surface of her bag.

Once she was done, she blew the clippings/skin off her bag - covering me & everyone around her. I actually retched!

HellonHeels · 24/02/2012 10:05

That is vile!

The correct location to clip nails is (IMHO) either in the bathroom after a shower, cleaning up all clippings and putting in bathroom bin OR for those who have gardens, in the garden, preferably in a less-used spot.

Am quite horrified by all these stories of commuter-clippings.

AlexTasha · 24/02/2012 13:11

Yuuuuck that is seriously foul. I have an issue with people filing their names on trains / tubes / ferries etc with all their dead skin cells floating over everyone in the vicinity too. Bluuurgh. Nails need to be tended to at home!

Devora · 24/02/2012 13:14

MrsSchadenfreude - you have actually made the bile rise in my throat.

takeonboard · 24/02/2012 13:16

eew...damn right its not on!

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 24/02/2012 13:24

the best place is over the bath, then RINSING THEM AWAY DS1, CAN YOU HEAR ME?

PandaWatch · 24/02/2012 17:56

I once saw a man cutting his toenails on the tube (he was wearing flip flops). I summoned the best outraged glare I could muster but he didn't even flinch. I had to move carriages.

YANBU.

INeverFinishAnythi · 24/02/2012 18:02

I would be terribly paranoid about leaving the clippings. What if someone were to steal them, and then leave them at a crime scene to implicate you? It's unlikely but still possible and you'd feel like such an ass if it did happen. No one is getting their hands on my clippings!
