DD went to a friends house for tea today (DD and friend are both 6 years old)and has just been brought home by friends mum who said 'DD didn't really eat a lot so might still be hungry later'.

Not like DD at all as she is not fussy in the slightest and will generally eat anything put in front of her. Thanked the mum anyway, offered to have her DD for tea the next day and they went on their way.

Anyway asked DD if she was ok as she didn't eat a lot, was she feeling a bit ill etc. and she explained that she didn't like it so tried a bit and left the rest.

What did she have?

A pot noodle!

Aparantly DD was offered a choice of 2 flavours of pot noodle but there was nothing else when she said she didn't like pot noodles so she chose one to try.

Now nothing wrong with pot noodles but do people really invite children's friends over and give them a pot noodle as a meal? Bearing in mind this invite came from the mum on Monday afternoon so had time to go shopping etc.

To me it's more of a snack food and not a meal and I would be mortified to offer that to someone as a meal. I know i'm being judgey but seriously

AIBU to think it wouldn't have killed the mum to at least make a sandwich?

I wouldn't offer it as a meal if one of the kids had a friend over, no. Still at least your DD was offered something though

usualsuspect · 22/02/2012 17:36

Oh well , never mind

SleepingWithGhosts · 22/02/2012 17:40

Could have been worse I suppose, could have been a Gregg's sausage roll Grin

I love a Pot Noodle. Chicken & Mushroom especially. Grin

But I don't eat them in public!

HexagonalQueenOfTheSummer · 22/02/2012 17:41

I think I'd rather have a gregg's sausage roll than a pot noodle! Yum!

usualsuspect · 22/02/2012 17:42

I'd have a pot noodle and a sausage roll

SleepingWithGhosts · 22/02/2012 17:43

Yeah good point, pot noodles taste like soggy cardboard.

No chicken and mushroom diabolo it was sweet and sour that DD had, never tried that one but can't imagine it being great.

Even I, with my lowest of the low standards in food provision would make Shock face at thinking a pot noodle is in any way an appropriate meal for anyone.

Newmummytobe79 · 22/02/2012 17:44

Pot Noodles are for adults. Adults with hangovers Grin

Gregs sausage rolls are my DH's warm up, whilst he decides what he really wants on his lunch break!

Hairytoes · 22/02/2012 17:45

If it fills you up, it's a meal!
When I used to go to my friends house 'tea' used to be white bread and margarine.

TheOneWithTheHair · 22/02/2012 17:46

She could have had a rustlers burger!

usualsuspect · 22/02/2012 17:47

We used to have bread and dripping [old gimmer]

Eaglewings · 22/02/2012 17:47

Will people stop talking about Greggs SR when I'm suffering in Lent from not eating them :(

laluna · 22/02/2012 17:49

Mmmmm chow pot noodle. We got a box of them at work as a thank you (really) made quite a nice change from biscuits and chocs. Was IBU to have one for breakfast at 6am?

Not sure I'd serve them for kids tea though.

Newmummytobe79 · 22/02/2012 17:49

Eaglewings - use my very religious friends Sunday exempt excuse rule and stuff your face with them! Only 3 days to go! Grin

fuzzPigwickPapers · 22/02/2012 17:52

Eagle is it greggs sausage rolls specifically? Or all greggs produce? Or all sausage rolls?

Now I know why the majority of DD's friends used to turn their noses up at my lovingly prepared freshly cooked meals, they just weren't used to top quality supper nosh.

Elfontheedge · 22/02/2012 17:55

I would have wet myself with delight if someone had offered me a Pot Noodle as a child. I was never allowed junk food.

Dinosaurhunter · 22/02/2012 17:57

Yanbu !

GoEasyPudding · 22/02/2012 17:59

A Pot Noodle! That is very funny, you have to laugh, but don't judge to harshly.

Even the makers of the Pot Noddle know they are evil and bad. What was the line "the slag of snacks"?

Gosh, I really want one now.

GoEasyPudding · 22/02/2012 18:01

sorry thats "too harshly"

maybe a pot rice....yum.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 22/02/2012 18:07

Nowt wrong with a Greggs sausage roll, the dses and me like themWink

I would never feed them a pot noodle though, never mind someone else's dc. They are revolting and full of salt yes I know Greggs sausage rolls are full of crap but it's nice tasting crap
