Is it just me or am i the only one who thinks it unreasonable for rellies to visit during school holidays especially summer without checking dates with me first just go and book it and advise me cheerfully we coming down so and so keep it free !!! and also is it unreasonable to say their dogs cannot come in as our dog does not like it [not nasty just scuppers him] and they pee anywhere and steal his treats !!

YANBU

Time to lay the law down?

YANBU- your house and your rules. If you never want visitors ever again it is up to you as the home owner/occupier.

But just one question, are they visiting or staying over? Big difference. It would be a bit limiting if you said nobody come for the 12 weeks a year the kids are off. I personally don't like people staying over as we are full and it's a lot of work for me, but visitors are welcome for a cup of tea.

Regarding the dog, just say you can't have the dog in your house. Anyone who lets their dog pee in someone's house would not be welcome again in my house.

If they are expecting to stay with you, you could always contact them and say oops sorry we will be away then, how about checking with me next time (!)

I'd be miffed if I was expected to put them up, although I would happily put them up if they had consulted me iykwim.

Meh families!

not staying as no room at the inn [but nearby and with us all day every day and expect to do touristy stuff and really cannot afford to do it everyday. And they expect entertaining so stay in all aspects but sleep I know it sounds mean but last year we did not even get chance to go away as inundated bah humbug I move 500 miles away and no one gets hint !!!

so, book to go away and tell people that you are away then!

also, book in plenty of cheap stuff- doing stuff with friends, swimming etc and just tell rellies, its great to see you but Tuesday we are busy, Thursday afternoon we cant do etc.

it is the downside of moving away
