to not let 13 year old play 18 games eg COD, GTA

have been refusing up to now, but ALL his friends are allowed to and he's feeling like the odd one out. Feel sorry for him, he's a bit upset and trying to fit in with the crowd etc. Anyone else given in?

My compromise is that my ds (nearly 11) plays in split screen mode which is pretty tame - no blood, swearing or drug taking and tbh is pretty similar to Quontam of Solice game which is a 12 rating. I won't buy the game. I am stunned at how many of ds's friends play on COD every day and on line too. Atm I am holding the reins but feel them slipping a bit every day tbh

YANBU. Wish more parents were like you.

For future reference though, GTA is worse than COD.

GTA is the most vile game ever. Because my ds's mate was allowed to play on it at 11, my ds learned 'whore, muthafucker' and a whole host of other vile language.

I Wouldn't make them wait until they were 18 , I think my ds was about 15 when he started to play 18 games

ususal I am planning on that I think for ds, he can play on 12 and some 16 games now so by the time he is 15 he can work out for himself what he wants to play on. Tbh he finds a lot of the games boring it's just that all his mates bar 1 are allowed to play on them.

It wasn't a problem when I was a lad as computer graphics were so basic back then, but IMO they're rated 18 for a reason, like films are rated 18 for a reason.

Just because they're computer games, doesn't mean they're for children, it's a bit like parents who let kids watch South Park - just because it's a cartoon, doesn't mean it's for kids!

YANBU, and that's from a guy who grew up playing computer games (when allowed to by his mean and harshly strict parents )

Oh don't get me started on South Park!

DS's 12, 13 and 15 here are allowed to play some 18 games.

I vet the games using you tube....watch some clips gauge the violence etc check for 'turn off gore' settings and wot not, then decide....this seems to keep all DS's happy and me!

Oh...and no online playing here...there are enough DS's on there anyway without extra's appearing!
