To ask you all about PPI and hyperemesis or can you point me to the right forum?

To keep it brief, considering having another baby next year, was sick for entire pregnancy last time, couldnt work and therefore received very little pay. Am temping at present and work is intermittent. Have been told by friend that most insurance companies will not provide me payment protection insurance for a pre-existing illness that is likely to re-occurr, which she feels hyperemesis falls into and also the fact that I dont have regular work.

Sounds right but any kind souls out there able to give me hope/info?

thanks

deb

I'm not sure about the financial side of it but to give you a wee bit hope I had horrendous hyperemesis with ds but not with dd.

thanks for that left wonder why it was different the second time for you, im sure you were delighted.

Mine was so bad the first time I didnt actually think I could ever go through it again. I literally threw up until I dellivered the baby!

did you do anything different the second time around?

I don't think the insurance side of things sounds hopeful, sorry.

What medical treatment did you receive? Were you given drugs, hospitalised...?

deburca · 20/02/2012 20:46

They tried buccastem but apart from that i just had to suffer it. i got acupunture bracelets but really they didnt help. Im dreading the pregnancy, honestly so so afraid but I dont want my child to be an only child and I really do want to have another baby.

I was so depressed last time I was pregnant - dreading it Sad

Buccastem is not the only option. You could ask your doctor to suggest alternatives, such as an antihistamine medication.

Yes I was being sick around 30 times a day with dc1. Even woke up to be sick. Lost a lot of weight. Lots of keytones etc. The full 42 weeks though it did ease between 26-30 weeks.

With dc2 I was still sick most of the pregnancy but maybe only twice a day after 12 weeks and before that maybe 3/4 times a day.

It is very depressing, it almost destroyed me.

I didn't do anything different but I did have a boy then a girl. I'd love another but I just can't take the chance itd happen again, not with 2 young kids to look after :(

Try asking on this Hyperemesis Support thread - they seem a friendly bunch :)

Ondansetron melts are the work of the gods. Definitely changed my world when I got prescribed them! And agree that 2nd pregnancy was much better for me.

mancbird · 20/02/2012 23:50

I had hyperemesis and my doctor prescribed metochlopromide (sp?). It didn't stop the sickness but did help a bit. I also had a boy so maybe it's the boy hormones that cause it? Mind you, my mam had it badly when she was pregnant with me but fine with my sister so I might have just scuppered my own theory!

The hyperemesis thread on here is great btw :)

Lucinda who runs the Hyperemesis thread may know something about this, or MOH, another knowledgeable poster. come over and ask. I too had Hyperemesis in 3 previous pregnancies, and am considering trying again as all of them ended in mc at 9 weeks. I joined the thread for support and to get more of an idea about how to cope with it.

PPI usually only applies to people with full-time jobs, not workers on contracts or agency staff. Many people were were mis-sold PPI on this basis. I don't know about pregnancy related conditions. It is also often not a very good product.

What are your insurance needs? I would consult a specialist insurance broker if you definitely want PPI.
