Not really an AIBU, although maybe I am. Have to go on a train journey next week with 4 month old DD, hour and a half journey each way. Leaving at 830am, returning 1630, so not peak peak time but probably busy. Want to take a pram type buggy rather than folding pushchair, although I have both, because DM will be looking after DD for the day for me and she'll be much happier with a pram so she can look at DD's smiley little face. But - am I asking for trouble? Any tips for negotiating busy trains with big bulky prams? Should I just take the Maclaren? AIBU to bother the poor commuters with my big baby-mobile?

I used to take the tube frequently with dd and used a sling until she turned one and became too heavy. Of you absolutely have to take a pushchair, I would say take the maclaren folded and baby in sling. Pram will prob mean you won't be able to get on if it is going to London!

Had my first experience of taking DS on the tube in london today.

Lovely chap helped me carry the buggy up the many steps and over the tracks and down again to change platform, but as there was a train already there we hurried down the steps and jumped on it without checking it was the right line - only to realise we'd both jumped onto the wrong train in our haste. So we got off at the next stop, and he couldn't really escape helping me carry it all the way up and over again to change back to the other platform.

Lovely chap.

Bet he was glad it was just a McClaren and not the big buggy.

I love the suggestion that OP will be able to sit down on a London train. Grin Never at 8.30am have I found a seat. 30 mins could make a world of difference.

And there's rarely room for single people on the tube in the AM, let alone room for a buggy too. Fold the McClaren, and take a swing, make changes at Kings Cross (loads of lifts) where you can, be prepared for tutting from power hungry men with huge man bags, practise your 'I can travel where the fuck I want' stare. Best of luck!!!

Ah I see the train has been and gone and I missed it.

Aaah I am SO pleased it all went well for you. Your story of great customer service and helpful and charming commuters has really warmed the cockles of my heart!

Great. It's really nice to see that after all our nay saying people were so generous with their time and energy.
