My dd survived the coach crash on the news today. A wonderful teacher was killed, some of the children are badly injured. Aibu to just say, let's all just stop, think, put petty squabbles aside and hug our loved ones.

What a terrible thing to have happen. I feel so much for everyone concerned. Glad your DD is okay.

thebody · 21/02/2012 19:43

Hi everyone, thank u all so much for the kind words.

So dd got back at 1am, they got them back by Eurostar as the girls couldn't get on a coach and arrived in London. Again they refused to get on a coach to brum
So virgin laid on a special 1st class coach for them, free, and filled it with sweets and drinks, lovely.take it all back Richard b!

They had a police escort all the way as the press were very intrusive.

She has major cuts to her face and body, she was trapped in the coach for a while and was cut out, the girl next to her had a broken leg and she was screaming, a parent helper couldn't find his own child so was shouting for help, truly awful. My dd thought she had died as she was buried in the ditch the coach had landed in, think this saved many lives as cushioned the blow .

The lovely mr rip went through the wind screen and died instantly, some of the children had to step over him to get out.

All the other teachers and helpers were truly heroic and got all the kids out, they saved lives and were amazing.

A party of 6th formers and teachers from Bristol stopped to help and these teens were incredible. As we're the French helpers.

Early days and lots of memories and nightmares, my kick ass dd can't sleep alone and wants light on, I have to also wash her hair as full of mud and glass.

School and police have been wonderful, British consul fantastic!

Each day a journey

Thanks for the update, thebody. It must be so hard to see your dd going through something like this, but it's heartening to know that so many people have helped out in so many ways.

I hope that your dd and her friends will feel better soon.

Gumby · 21/02/2012 19:54

Thanks for the update, hope she sleeps better tonight xx

WorraLiberty · 21/02/2012 19:58

Oh that's dreadful

Hope she's better soon Sad

thebody · 21/02/2012 19:59

Thanks, yes we hope and pray the seriously injured girls fully recover. It had been such a wonderful trip and ironically it was Petes last one before retiring. I would like everyone to know what a heroine his daughter was, she conferted all the girls even while her dad was dead and her her own mum
Seriously injured, she is only 23!

Oh OP. Thinking of you and your dd this evening and the teacher who died so tragically. Awful, just awful.

Glittertwins · 21/02/2012 20:04

I can't think how horrific this has been for anyone, let alone young children. I really hope she, and her friends, can start healing and recover from this.

DressTuckedInMeKnickers · 21/02/2012 20:21

This has moved me to tears, love toyour family.

PoohBearsHole · 21/02/2012 20:27

Oh god, I am so glad for you. You have really touched me and I can't stop the tears. Those poor girls, his poor daughter. Just so horrendous Sad

thebody · 21/02/2012 20:33

Yes indeed it's so terrible, but it's also amazing to see the bravery and kindness of total strangers as well as the professionalism and kindness of the teachers. It's the best of human nature in the worst of circumstances.

TheCrunchUnderfoot · 21/02/2012 20:52

Wise words OP, your DD got lucky in the mum raffle :)

ballroomblitz · 21/02/2012 21:03

My thoughts are with your dd and the rest of the families involved OP. I tragically lost a friend through an accident on a school trip abroad many years ago and it deeply effected the pupils and teachers :(

Wishing everyone concerned the strength to get through this time.

thebody · 21/02/2012 21:07

Thanks so much all, if ok will keep posting as will defiantly need advice going forward, thanks again, and thanks crunch xx

kingbeat23 · 21/02/2012 21:12

It's very rare that a thread moves me to tears but I am so glad your DD is ok and the other children that came out of that crash.

My heart goes out to all the tragedies that happened and you're totally right about laying waste to pettiness and being thankful for what we have.

Abig hug to your DD x

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 21/02/2012 21:13

Those poor kids.
I am so glad you DD is home safe.
Children shouldnt have to see such dreadful things and feel such fear.

backwardpossom · 21/02/2012 21:26

I too have been very moved by this thread. Best wishes to you and your DD x

GirlWithPointyShoes · 21/02/2012 21:26

your DD got lucky in the mum raffle

So true. Thinking of you and all the others involved. God bless.

youarekidding · 21/02/2012 21:34

Words really can't describe how pleased I am for you to have your DD back safe and sound.

I actually cried when I saw the news report on this.

I wish you and your DD all the best whilst you come to terms with this tragic accident.

I also agree your words of kindness for those less fortunate shows a strength of character you should be proud of.

Jackstini · 21/02/2012 21:53

Moved me to tears also and made me stop and count my blessings.
Wishing you and dd lots of special time together to get through this and thanking God she is safe at home now.
Praying for everyone that has been touched by this awful tragedy Sad

Cherriesarelovely · 21/02/2012 23:06

So moved by this OP. I am so glad that your DD is home but what a terrible terrible ordeal for all involved. I was thinking of all the poor children and their teachers and parents at the weekend. Imagining what an impact that would have on a school and community. I'm sending you all huge hugs and love. xxxxxxxxxx

ChaosTrulyReigns · 21/02/2012 23:23

thebody, thank you for sharing so eloquently your and your DD's trauma.

I, too, have been moved to tears by your posts.

I wish you and your daughter strength in the days to come.

I hope you find that your posts on here can help you postion your feelings and emotions.

A virtual hug for you and your family from me is such a little thing, I'm sorry.

EduStudent · 22/02/2012 00:26

I'm so glad that your DD is home and safe with you, I can't even begin to imagine how truly awful an experience it must have been. I hope you all find the strength to pull through the days to come.

I have a vague connection to one of the children who turned out to be on the second coach. Knowing how awful it felt waiting to hear that they were ok, it is unthinkable the position you were in. Has made me appreciate things more in the last few days; it's all too easy to get caught up in the details of life.
