To just want a sodding cup of tea?!

DH offers me a cuppa, then sits down at pc and starts playing some shit a game. I wait 20 mins, no tea forthcoming, so get up to make it myself. DH immediately jumps up, blocks my way to the kitchen and steers me back to the sofa to a chorus of, 'I'll make it, I said I'd make it!'
Repeat two/three times for every cup of bastard tea every bastard weekend.
AIBU to buy and hide my own fecking kettle to avoid having to be oh-so-grateful that he's saved me the time and effort of making it myself in the first place? Hmm

XH used to bring me tea without offering. It was nice to get up in the morning to a steaming cup of tea. It was nice to get home to another cup of tea. He would also bring tea at regular intervals during evenings and weekends. How kind, you say. But he wouldn't ask, he'd just make it and then get huffy if I didn't finish it (because my back teeth were already awash with the last 3 cups of tea). He liked his really hot whereas I like it medium hot, so he'd go all panicky because I was leaving it too long so it would be what he thought was too cold. He would sometimes whisk the cup away and try to make a new one before I was half-way down one I was already enjoying. And heaven protect me if I didn't drink it at all (probably because I hadn't noticed). All drama-queenish about the dreadful waste - well you could try asking me if I'd like one, I suggested - no, he was NEVER going to make the tea EVER AGAIN because I clearly didn't appreciate his efforts. But he still did.

When we divorced I completely lost interest in tea for about 3 years. I didn't even like the taste. Fortunately I'm back on it again.

Tea as an instrument of oppression: discuss.

DH makes the tea swiftly enough, but he places it completely out of my reach while I'm feeding dd2 and then disappears so all I can do is forlornly sit and watch it go cold.

Ha Gwen, that is my most enduring memory of BF'ing too. No empathy these tea makers...

Luckily, he does know better than to get in the way of my wine Grin

When DH does it and I'm still waiting, I will subtly say things like "Ooh, this tea's nice".

OldGreyWiffleTest · 19/02/2012 12:19

Ah yes - how many times have I heard......."It's still brewing" 15 minutes later !!!

I need a teamaid! Two in fact! One for me and one for DP.

Mandy2003 · 19/02/2012 21:48

I want a cup of tea as well. But it's after 9.00pm and I can't have one otherwise I'll be up and down all night going to the toilet. Don't mind normally but I have work in the morning and need one decent night's sleep Sad

40notTrendy · 19/02/2012 21:57

That's our teasmaid Sticky. Get it get it!!
