my dd will be 3.3 in sept and i have put her name down for 3 schools. will not be hearing if she gets in till may.

but i was reading the other thread and am a tiny bit worried. am i putting her into school too early.she has not been to nursery of any sort im a SAHM, but will be putting her in nursery when she turns 3 when we get the free funding.

she is potty trained but not fully she can wipe when she wees but not poos. she can sort of dress herself- she can put her knickers on and jeans-but not tops. i know sept is a long way off..
but i just want your suggestions if shes too young or will she cope because i know that she'll probably be one of the youngest in the class.

Remember it's more than six months till September. She's only been alive for 21 months so it's more than a quarter of her life again before then.

Just assess her and see how she is nearer the time and what you feel comfortable with. The nursery should also be very good at telling you what they think.

School starts when your child is four, at the earliest. So obviously you are talking about nursery. Confused

GrownUp2012 · 18/02/2012 18:32

Nursery are fine with that. Reception is when you need to worry.

IneedAbetterNicknameIn2012 · 18/02/2012 18:42

Neither of my 2 started nursery until they got the free funding, and they settled in fine. It sounds like she is doing everything they will want/need her to be doing. PLus I bet in 6 months time she is doing a LOT more!

Oggy · 18/02/2012 20:07

At 3.3 she will probably not be one of the youngest. It may differ where you are but here they start taking them at pre-schools at 2 and many people start their children at 2.5 (and pay until they are free) so you may fund your daughter has quite a few younger children in her "class".

All that aside she sounds like she is doing very well indeed for her age so don't think you have a problem anyway.

I wouldn't worry at all. She is doing really well already. I am a nursery/reception teacher and the fact that she is potty trained means that she is ahead of some reception children even now. Plus as a teacher all I really want is for them to be potty trained before they get to me so I don't have to clean all the time. I wouldn't worry about dressing herself as much most can't get jumpers over their heads even in year two you always have a few that can't.
September is a long way off and you both have plenty of time to sort anything your worrying about. :o

Thanks a lot for your replies.. it has cleared up some of my doubts.. i didnt grow up in the uk and so am not very familiar with the concept of all the different schools they have here.. where im from we started at about 3 and just stayed in the school till we did our gcse's.
I just dont want sept to come soon.. my baby seems to be a little girl now Sad

She doesn't have to go if you'd rather she stayed at home a bit longer. My DS didn't start the funded nursery till 6 months after he could have as I wanted more time with him. She has to start by her fifth b'day. Till then you can just defer if you want
