To think that Debenhams is actually shit?

I sallied forth to Debenhams this afternoon as I have a gift voucher to spend and wanted a new work bag. No bag to be had; what was there was plasticky and overpriced. OK, slippers then. Virtually no slippers to be had because - as the sales assistant snottily informed me - it's not Christmas. Right.
Meander through the lingerie section. Not one bra in my size. Enquire about the possibility of one to fit me and am met with a look of shock and horror. Slink off feeling decidedly downcast by now to the coffee shop where I am sat now. So far I have been told off by one of the waitresses for sitting down at a table of my choice rather than one they led me to, and I have been waiting 20 minutes for my coffee to arrive while the staff stand around chatting.

Meh. Don't mind me. I hate shopping. And I have found nothing to spend my voucher on.

And what is with the whole glammed up to go shopping thing? (Penny drops as to why I have been regarded with such disdain......)

My local one has the nicest bra fitting expert, but no maternity bras I could afford or would be seen dead in. I felt rotten using her expertise then going to M&S for the actual bras.

And yeah, the cafe, changing rooms, clothing ranges (nothing between Top Shop and Alexon - why?) etc are grim.

But. But. They are the only department store I know that has jelly beans at the till. I have been known to go in just for the beans.

YANBU - the thing that really bugs me about Debenhams is the fact that they seem to have perfected the skill of putting clothes on the wrong sized hanger. If you manage to find something you like, you can bet that it isn't the size it says on the hanger - speaking after one too many adventures in the changing room, stripped off, and pissed off to find that the size 12 dress was actually an 8 or a 16. Pah.

Debenhams in Gravesend is the worst store ever, without a shadow of doubt. There's absolutely nothing to buy that doesn't look like its gone through a mangle first and right now there are huge sections roped off due to leaks! Buckets everywhere. Thats before I mention how rude the staff - including the managers - are!!!

I know this is a zombie thread but DH and I were only discussing today how shit Debenhams is. Our local one is like an overpriced pile of mess. The stock they have looks old and manky, especially the accessories like jewellery and sunglasses. Everything just looks touched and grubby. I women's shoe section has horrible, ugly shoes and boots mostly by Faith. I don't even know why they stock shoes from that company.

The last thing I got from there was Dd's school cardigan and even that has discoloured in the tumble drier...and it was advertised as being perfect for tumble drying.
