To think that there is NOTHING less sexy than...

...a pale pink night shirt (eg long T shirt type thing) with a high percentage of polyester in the poly/cotton ratio, with a sad eyed puppy appliqued on the front, proclaiming "I'm Cute!"

Or a lemon yellow one, with a penguin appliqued on the front, wearing a jaunty bobble hat and scarf, proclaiming "Snow time!" with a few strategically placed snowflakes above his head.

(Just having a clear out...Christmas presents from my DM and DMIL...)

MY MIL buys and wears such nightwear for HERSELF. It is truly upsetting when she stay with us and the nightie rides up when she sits on the sofa.

DrCoconut · 18/02/2012 18:18

I LOVE my fleece jim jams. Our house is not a warm building and they are fab for winter nights when all you want/need to do is sleep. Not sexy but not supposed to be.

scarletforya · 18/02/2012 18:18

YANBU

Pale pink has to be the ugliest and most unflattering colour for adults clothes EVER!

MyLittleMiracle · 18/02/2012 18:52

Oh dear, my current pj's are me to you bear and my other pair, has a cow on the front and said MOOODY COW! From primarks!! BUT i am single. So no one gets to see me and is therefore about comfort, although i do have a little black strappy nightie, which is a little thin for this weather, maybe when it gets warmer!

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 18/02/2012 18:55

Me, DH and DS all have fleece PJs... Blush

I hate cute nighties though!!

Camblewick · 18/02/2012 18:59

Sexy nightwear from your MIL would be wrong. This is why I was horrified, nay, terrified when my MIL presented me with a red floaty Ann Summers negligee and matching 'panties' (her words) for my birthday a couple of months ago. It was a toe curling moment when I opened it surrounded by my family.

LiviaAugusta · 18/02/2012 19:00

YABU - you should see the penguin onesie my Mum bought me for Christmas! Deeply unsexy and logistically impossible for DH to get into .

troisgarcons · 18/02/2012 19:02

My next door neighbour persists in buying me this sort of thing for christmas and birthdays - I can only assume that it is because she doesnt want me to have a ny more children Grin

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 18/02/2012 19:34

My DP says that there is nothing less sexy than seeing me fat bird in my sky blue long johns with the man gusset in the front! I wear them all the time! Wink

FlightRisk · 18/02/2012 21:10

Surely if you're sharing your bed the body heat keeps ypu warm so no need for fleece pj's.

I'm single so my tartan brushed cotton ones are allowed :) Xx

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 18/02/2012 21:28

It depends if you have a DH who steals the covers or leaves a draughty gap! no pun intended

Miggsie · 18/02/2012 21:32

I loathe such nightwear, DD (aged 8) once saw these at M&S and said "are they for mummies?" and I said "I think so" and she replied "but they look like children's clothes!" and she was right.

Why do manufacturers think women have the mental age of 5 at bedtime?

izzyizin · 18/02/2012 21:32

Surely pyjamas, nightdresses, and other garments described as 'nightwear' are only meant to be worn up until the point when the wearer slips between the sheets?

MrsSchadenfreude · 18/02/2012 21:48

Don't get me wrong, I don't think nightwear needs to be sexy. I have lovely brushed cotton PJ trews and T shirt tops which I usually wear. It is the vomit making "cutesiness" of the teddies, fluffy pussies and ickle bunnies that I can't stand.

That said, I'm sat here in a top that has 3 penguins tacked to it and the phrase "Love Never Melts". It's a Matalan-tastic horror that my Mother bought me just after I got divorced Hmm

I never used to wear pj's before I was on my own, but now I love a bit of cosy nightwear so I use them now.

Kittykatzen · 18/02/2012 22:32

I would prefer that to my MIL's offering just before my wedding. Four negligees, about ten pairs of skimpy knickers in various synthetic fabrics, a feather boa and a tube of chocolate body paint. Handed over with the words 'I know what my son likes!'. Horrendous. Even if he did like that sort of thing, the thought of my MIL approving in a 'that's my boy' kind of way would be deeply, deeply unsexy...

mathanxiety · 18/02/2012 22:36

LOLOL at 'built like a brick shithouse'..

I actually think anything that blurs the line between little girls and grown women is really Hmm, either clothes that sexualise little girls or clothes that make a woman look as if she still hasn't made it past the age of 9 in many ways. I know someone whose house is completely Disnified and it gives me the creeps. And she wears Disney clothes, with Mickey Mouse and all the rest of the characters all over them.

Pj bottoms and tank tops or flannel pjs for me. Plus gigantic woolly socks.

MrsSchadenfreude · 18/02/2012 22:43

TOTU. Oh yes - I've got had that one too. Blush Bright pink, right? Think that had matching slippers too...

OP posts:
MrsSchadenfreude · 18/02/2012 22:44

Think that one was DMIL. There's not enough polyester in it for it to have come from DM, who doesn't like anything that creases.

Yeahthatsnotgonnahappen · 18/02/2012 22:45

Kitty that is just awful. If I ever behave that way to my ds' gf I hope my dh has the good manners to take me out and shoot me. That is just... Eeewww.

I have a nightie which is just so little girl (not cutsie, but not really for a grown woman) that my dh just won't go near me when I wear it but it's oh so comfortable. I also have a nightie that used to be my moms (it's a big tshirt nightie thing) which is also a massive mood killer.

TheOriginalNutcracker · 18/02/2012 22:45

Where are they from ?? I is exactly the type og nightie i am looking for, for dd1 when she goes into hospital lol.

Earthymama · 18/02/2012 22:50

I was just going to say about the Disney thing, I saw several grown women with Disney satchels or shoppers today
What do they think it says about them?
I KNOW what I think it says Grin

Pixel · 18/02/2012 22:51

Actually I do have some Mickey Mouse pjs complete with tartan bottoms that were a Christmas pressie from my sister some years ago. I dragged them out from the back of the wardrobe the other night because it was so cold and strangely they seem to have shrunk a lot while they were in there. Hmm.

I have to wear something to bed in really cold weather as I force dh to sleep on his side to minimise snoring and it leaves a chilly gap in the duvet. I promise I only have the one pair of 'character' pjs though!

Feminine · 18/02/2012 22:52

My MIL always buys me sleep wear.
The latest offering was some lovely PJs covered in cherries! Confused

Pixel · 18/02/2012 22:55

I bought my sister a red fleecy 'onesie' for Christmas in revenge as a joke. She was thrilled and sent me a pic of her modelling it, lol.
