I could be in two days a week for asda.
No way would I be spending £100 at sainsburys though. I tried bulk online shopping once, and was still in the supermarket 2 days later! IME you just end up spending more.

Seriously though, don't you all think children, by the age of 4 anyway, should just have to sometimes do things like shopping?
I mean, you can't just stop doing normal everyday stuff because they find it boring, or because the temptations e.g toys and sweets are too great. Can you?

I've stopped taking my two year old with me. Last time I took him he kept running off and I lost him for about give minutes in the milk aisle. Most of me panicked but part of me enjoyed the peace. Finally had to manhandle him into the trolley which was tricky as he is so big for his age and doesn't fit very well. A random stranger had to help me by grabbing DS's legs. Embarrassing. Then after about ten minutes the seat collapsed because DS was over the weight limit and he ended up sprawled on top of all the shopping in the trolley. Awful. He's actually fairly well behaved other places but the supermarket ie just terrible. I have taken him twice since, just for when I've needed one or two things not a big shop, and both times he has stood outside saying 'I don't like this place mommy' and I've had to literally scoop him up and carry him in screaming.
If you don't have to take them why put yourself through it?

northern thats very true, but the Op is a bit down and its her ability to cope with the hassle that is important right now, plenty of time to 'train' the kids in real life when she is feeling stronger, that said DH is around so problem solved.

fallenpetal · 18/02/2012 16:20

YANBU Good grief woman LOL leave oh with the kids and get out for a bit! So thats only the supermarket but hey its a break! Get a magazine and go for a coffee as well. Have fun! x

I could easily spend £100 at sainsbury.... much of it would be wine Grin but yep it is a lot just for food depending on how often you shop and how many you have to feed. I have 2 teenage DS and they could eat the WHOLE of sainsburys every week Grin

Thanks everyone for your replies, especially Stepaway, you are very kind.
Everything feels twice as hard when you are down.

I rarely take all mine into shops it saves me a fortune.

Shopping is boring I want to start screaming myself after five minutes so imagine how a child must feel.
On line or alone is the ONLY way.

Aribura · 18/02/2012 19:19

I can understand the 3 year old, but an 8 year old is old enough to be expected to behave.

TheMonster · 18/02/2012 19:21

My son (5) has turned into a little shit recently, so I feel your pain.

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 18/02/2012 19:27

I stick to naughty step when we're in tesco it's naughty spot, I make him sit on the floor sometimes I kneel behind him to ensure he stays. You have to be willing to put up with some strange looks though but I only have to use it once in a blue moon now

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 18/02/2012 19:29

Sorry I've only just read last page of the thread didn't realise u were feeling down ATM I. That case leave them with OH or a relative if anyone lives nearby

FlightRisk · 18/02/2012 20:27

I shop online even though DS has never played up in a supermarket.

The joy of having my food delivered inbetween 7 and 9 on a sunday morning before DS is even out of bed is worth the 5.50 delivery charge.

Also I don't drive so 5.50 is much cheaper than it would cost in a taxi (grin)

Really get online and save yourself the stress (smile)

Minshu · 18/02/2012 22:25

I get a £3 delivery charge slot from Tesco, but also getting a £5 voucher each week at the moment for shopping on line regularly (won't last long). And, I've not had to go to the local shop as often between deliveries, which I was doing due to having forgotten something while wandering round with a chattering toddler in the trolley.

My 2 yo isn't badly behaved, but there are so many better things to do with our time than go round the supermarket every week. We go to other shops where she has to behave, so she's not missing much from life education :)

cestlavielife · 18/02/2012 22:30

Major shop online while you feeling down.

When you better do small specific shops with the dc so they learn. Do lists with them. Buy what is on the list but do small shops like this not the big one.

empirestateofmind · 19/02/2012 01:57

I never took my DC food shopping when they were little. Understandably they hated shopping. Why put yourself or them through it?

Either I went or DH went or we did on-line shopping.
