AIBU to consider cancelling this entertainment????

My daughter is having her 6th birthday party 3 weeks tomorrow.

We found an entertainer we liked a few weeks ago. Reviews seemed positive and price wise it is very good.

It will be £110 for a 2 hour disco with snow white mascot. They provide games and prizes plus filled party bags for 25 children. They also provide face painting.

Paid the deposit and all seemed OK.

Now yesterday found out they had a couple of recent bad reviews. One that was especially worrying is that they contacted someone 3 days before the arranged party and said they could no longer offer the character mascot they wanted so they refunded the people their money. Now they did offer another mascot so suppose it was the people's decision to cancel rather than they were not going to provide anything, just not what was originally ordered?

Would any of this worry you or would you say it was just circumstances?

They seem nice and answer any questions you have but I just have this feeling that something will go wrong or they will not turn up on the day!?

Do you think as it is the first party I have done I am just being nervous?

So please tell me I am being unreasonable and everything will be OK!!!!

That sounds like a staffing issue which can't be helped - surely if you booked Snow White and the only person free was a 6' butch bloke you'd have to say that Snow White was unavailable, would you like Scooby Doo instead?

A bad review under those circumstances seems more of a reflection on the reviewer than the company tbh

People only ever put up negative reviews. Think of the several hundered positive ones that aren't there.

Thanks for your reply. From what I gather it was a problem with the costume.

So think I am just nervous so trying to find problems!

My daughter would like scooby doo but sadly he wasn't one of their mascots!!!!!!!!!

Yes I think you are just nervous as it's the first proper party you've organised. I recently organiseda party for my 7 year old with an animal handler as the entertainment. The Safari animal theme was the whole point of the party, the invitations had pictures of the animal handler, my son and his friends were really looking forward to it. I booked it weeks and weeks in advance and then as the day approached I got really worried he wouldn't turn up. So I phoned to confirm and all was fine. On the day the party was due to start at 4pm. By quarter to four the first children started arriving (bloody annoying when that happens!) but by 4pm the animal handler ahd not arrived! I tried phoning the numbers but they just went to answer-phone. I was in total panic as had nearly 40 children in a hall with no sign of an entertainer. But at about 2 minutes past 4 he turned up and I actually ran up to hima nd hugged him!! The party was brilliant and all was fine! Party entertainers are not in the habit of not turning up or they don't get paid! Just make sure you call the day before just to double check and given that you had previously only read good reviews then I'm sure the bad ones were just one-offs. And as you said, they did offer a different mascot but the people chose not to take the alternative. All will be fine!!!!

Well then, you wouldn't want Snow White with her arse hanging out of her frock, would you Grin

I’m looking for a super Mario and yoshi mascot but the only one I can find won’t do mascot only; I would have to book a do package. Which we've already booked. Any recommendations?
