this should be in freelance/self-employed but i'm angry Angry

applied for a job with a 3rd January deadline (so did all the prep over new year and the xmas holidays)... advent said interviews would be 13 Jan..

heard nothing until end of Jan when i was summoned to an interview on 3rd Feb with just a few days notice...

told i'd hear by 10th or 13th at the latest...

it's now pretty much the 17th..

job is at least half my yearly hours and income so i am TOTALLY scuppered until i know one way or another.. can't apply for other work and still have capacity to delivery this... HOW long do they expect me to hang on... AngryAngryAngry

Oh dear, that sounds horrible. Not self employed, but is it acceptable to phone them and say that you need an answer? For a normal job interview I would be saying just forget it and move on at this point Sad Sorry X

Ring them and tell them you've had an enquiry about providing service (?) for another client and would appreciate knowing their position as soon as possible, you need to imply that as a professional you are wanting to give all your clients and potential clients the courtesy of a swift reply, they might just get the hint that they owe you the same courtesy.

I've been waiting to hear back from a job since September! I asked a few weeks ago, she said she needed more time and could she get back to me last week. I'm still waiting. I don't think they realise just how annoying this is.

randommoment · 16/02/2012 22:58

What line are you in Sybil?

maybenow · 17/02/2012 08:47

I'm going to email today.. am fed up of waiting. Normally i'd assume that i hadn't got it but in this case i don't think they'd be that rude, i think they haven't been able to appoint anybody yet for some reason but i do need to know what's going on...

waiting since september's awful sybil - is it a small piece of work?

Well, if you are going to e-mail, I suggest you proof read your e-mail (not use spellcheck). Your lack of capital letters might have an effect on your prospective employer's decision.

maybenow · 17/02/2012 08:58

what on EARTH would make you think i'd write a professional email in the same way i type on an informal discussion board on the internet with my phone?!?

fuck off and stop being so insulting!

Ha ha love the idea of mnet posting style being the same as how you do your prose professionally Grin, I'd deffo never get work

Proudnscary · 17/02/2012 09:22

Is it bunfight day today?!

I recruit people all the time and have recently been through a long interview process myself.

These things are often very, very frustrating for all manner of reasons and deadlines are rarely met.

IF you are going to chase, do it extremely politey and succintly, do NOT go into all the reasons you need to know. If you are seen to be a bit prickly (or desperate) it could swing it away from your direction.

Groovee · 17/02/2012 09:24

I wouldn't email I'd phone. More likely to catch them on the hop and get them flustered.

Proudnscary · 17/02/2012 09:25

But why make them flustered? Confused

She is trying to win this contract!

HeteronormativeBuckethead · 17/02/2012 09:29

I am also waiting decisions from 2 job interviews - one of them was back in November! The company in question emailed last month to ask me to hang on a bit longer fro their decision, and I went to another interview two weeks ago who are also now past their decision date.

I feel for you OP, maybe it's the lack of jobs which seems to make these companies think they can keep everyone hanging on a string?

LadySybilDeChocolate · 17/02/2012 17:20

I write children's books. I wouldn't mind if they said 'no', I could cope with that. It's the hanging on which is a PITA.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 17/02/2012 17:34

I have applied for 6 jobs in the last few weeks and have heard NOTHING back from any of them, ( closing dates all been and gone) one was with the DWP. I am assuming I was unsuccessful but would be nice to know ffs. specially the DWP one as I had to do online tests which feedback that is automatically generated said i did well in. Sad
