We loved it :)

Saltire · 16/02/2012 10:15

I liked it, but was shocked at the scenes involving the horses pulling euqipment etc - I knew the British had used cavalry at the start of WW1, but hadn't realised to what extent horse were used during WW1.

lurkinginthebackground · 16/02/2012 10:19

Is the play better than the film then?
Was hoping to go and see it in the summer.

malinkey · 16/02/2012 10:19

It's so cheesy.

The main character was terrible - was he meant to be simple?

MitchieInge · 16/02/2012 11:40

lurking - the play is amazing

randommoment · 16/02/2012 13:00

Which Oscar is it up for? If it's cinematography it thoroughly deserves it, but none of the others.

Saltire · 16/02/2012 13:01

Was the main character the horse?

bruffin · 16/02/2012 19:12

People clapped at the end of the film when I saw it. We all really enjoyed it, and there were good and bad german characters so I really dont get the comment "scary horse hating germans"

It was stunning to look at, and bought out the horror of the first world war without relying on blood and gore.

It had Benedict Cumberbatch in it. :o BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH. Ooooo I'm swooning, I must go see it!

malinkey · 17/02/2012 07:59

Saltire - the main character is the boy who owns the horse. Can't remember what he was called, sorry.

Benedict Cumberbatch was the best actor in the whole thing (apart from the horse of course) but he was only in it for about 2 minutes. And it's a very long film.

Saltire · 17/02/2012 09:43

Yes he is only in it for aobut 5 mins most, but he looks good on a horse

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 17/02/2012 15:17

I didn't recognise him! It's no skin off mine though. I think he's an ugly bastard!

Ok so scary horse hating germans is not quite right. Let's just say that the Germans were portrayed in a bad light in a typically american style, which is not what happens in the book. There is no right or wrong side in the book, because it's written from the horses point of view. Horses don't take sides in wars. I think the film misses the point slightly.

Saggy, Shock but he... he is glorious! :)

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 17/02/2012 15:34

This is Sherlock Holmes right? He's an ugly goggle eyed git!

Saltire · 17/02/2012 16:41

Poor horse - imagine caling it an ugly goggle eyed git Wink

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 17/02/2012 16:47

The horse, who was often female apparently, was beautiful. It was Cumberback bendydick who was ugly!

I agree Saggy, the book was lovely and I hated the way the film portrayed Germans bad, English good, it was so American predictable. I was really looking forward to seeing it and really wished I hadn't bothered. Sad

TinkerSailerSoldierSpy · 17/02/2012 18:27

I don't know why I find him so attractive. I just do. :o I'm not going to ask questions, just enjoooooooooooooooy it :)

anonacfr · 17/02/2012 18:38

Forrest Gump is one of the worst films ever made. I walked out of the cinema it was that bad.

anonacfr · 17/02/2012 18:39

Oscars are just ridiculous nowadays . They have about 10 films nominate in the Best Moie category it kind of cheapens the whole thing.

Saltire · 17/02/2012 18:40

I've only twice walked out of the cinema.
Both times were Tom Ihavetoomanyteeth Cruise films
