He is 8 and told me that he was trying to remove his cat from the bathroom so he tied a piece of string to his his leg and dragged him down the stairs. no remorse shown. he has hit the cat before. I felt a bit sick.

I take it the parents don't know about this?

needcakenow · 15/02/2012 18:47

no they don't know yet

Call RSPCA.

Poor cat!!

8 is old enough to know what hurts and what doesn't.

WorraLiberty · 15/02/2012 18:49

Do you believe it?

Surely tying a bit of string to its leg is way harder than simply shooing it out of the bathroom?

Either way, the parents need to know what he said.

Sparklingbrook · 15/02/2012 18:50

I would ring the parents.

needcakenow · 15/02/2012 18:54

i will tell the parents. not sure if i believe it or not. just very uneasy about kids doing thIngs like that. is this something to worry about for the long term?

Almost all serial killers start by hurting animals. That does not mean that all children who hurt animals will turn into serial killers. Still he needs to be told this is unacceptable.

Sparklingbrook · 15/02/2012 18:56

Sounds like he's showing off to his friend to me. It is quite difficult to get a proper story out of an 8 year old boy (I have experience in this field).

Speak to your DS again just to check the details, then ring the parents.

GrahamTribe · 15/02/2012 18:56

I'd tell the parents. This would not be a child who would be welcome in my house again.

ditavonteesed · 15/02/2012 18:56

worrying that he thinks this, but I would doubt very much that he tied a piece of string to a cat, have you ever tried to do anything to a cat that it doesnt want (and I mean give them tablets and put them in a box and grrom them before I get accused of doing mean things to cats). definatly talk to the parents.

I'd tell the parents what he'd said, but take what he'd said with a pinch of salt. It sounds more like an imaginary act to me than a real event.

Sparklingbrook · 15/02/2012 19:00

Sorry, I misread and thought your DS had seen this happen. No idea why. Confused Ignore my last post.

Anyway, I would just tell the parents what he told you.

Birdsgottafly · 15/02/2012 19:07

If he isn't clawed to bits, then there is a good chance that this completely made up, some boys like to tell stories that have shock value added into them.

It also depends on why he smacked the cat, not ideal but i have shoved the cat off my fish fingers with a little more force than intended. When they are the last of the packet i don't mess about.

blueemerald · 15/02/2012 19:08

I'm fairly sure the cat would have run away before letting the boy tie string around his leg but I would still double check with his parents.

ABigGirlDoneItAndRanAway · 15/02/2012 19:12

Did you see the cat, did it seem to be limping/injured at all? How long ago was this supposed to have happened?

BendyBob · 15/02/2012 19:16

I think it's entirely possible to tie string onto a cat. Not all cats are the 'claw you to pieces' variety, some are very soppy and trusting ie mine. Please do take this further. Whether he's 8 or not it's a horrible, cruel and hideous thing to even say let alone actually do. He sounds thoroughly awful.

SnapesMistress · 15/02/2012 19:21

Tell the parents, how do you know this op? Did the boy tell you himself or did someone else see?

saintmerryweather · 15/02/2012 19:26

My cousin used to swing her cat round by the tail when she was about 8. Definately tell his parents

runningwilde · 15/02/2012 19:29

Y haven't you said anything? Do so, now ! I feel sick thinking about that poor cat.

needcakenow · 16/02/2012 06:57

the boy told me himself and i didn't see the cat. i think in light of knowing that he had hit the cat before, this rang warning bells. i will tell the mum today.
