AIBU not to take DD1 out shopping today (she is 13) unless she puts on a coat on top of the vest top and thin t-shirt she is wearing?

As a walking oven YABU :D

Is it indoor shopping center or town/ outside

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 15/02/2012 12:58

No. But give her the option - one coat or six more layers - or she's not going. Her choice.

hathorinareddress · 15/02/2012 12:58

Outside for part of it, and then to cinema after but the town we're going to we'll be outside

HipHopOpotomus · 15/02/2012 12:58

YABU - surely a 13yo is aware of the potential consequences of no coat?

However your DD would be VVVU to then moan to you about being cold later on.

Hopstheduck · 15/02/2012 12:58

dd is the same. cant she layer under the tshirt instead? mine wears lons scarves and hats too

Kayano · 15/02/2012 12:59

Also the condition of even one shiver or utterance of 'it's cold mum' will result in immediately withdrawing cinema from the schedule and you will come straight home lol

hathorinareddress · 15/02/2012 13:00

I think we will compromise on coat in the boot of the car and if you say ONE WORD about being cold you have to go and get it and if you freeze to death don't come crying to me and all that

The sun is out, which apparently means it is not essential to have a coat Hmm

Sapphirefling · 15/02/2012 13:03

YABU. Let her freeze and then take great delight in wwatching her shiver and try to pretend her blue lips are a fashion statement later Grin

hathorinareddress · 15/02/2012 13:04

Another vote for let her freeze

Action. Consequence.

:)

complexnumber · 15/02/2012 13:13

Shove her outside for 15-20 mins before you go while you have a hot drink, then ask her again when she comes back in.

TheMonster · 15/02/2012 13:14

YANBU.

hathorinareddress · 15/02/2012 13:14

Grin I love that one complex

Yep let her freeze, at 13 she is old enough to make up her own mind.....and of course once she is freezing she will know that as usual mum was right (not that she would ever admit it) :)

mrsjay · 15/02/2012 13:22

MY dds hate being cold so will wear a jacket/jumper/scarf Grin when out , But let her freeze go shopping and if she moans then its tough titties she can stay out till you are ready to go home ,

fortyplus · 15/02/2012 13:22

Definitely old enough to take the consequences of her own decision - tell her to go outside for a couple of mins and then decide for herself. I bet she'll take a coat!

No coat no shopping trip. End of.

startail · 15/02/2012 14:02

My cure for DD2 is to say we're going then go to the loo before finding my car keys.
Generally by then she's stood outside long enough to see sense.

R2PeePoo · 15/02/2012 14:36

Let her freeze.

Go shopping.

When she is obviously shivering and cold produce a jumper from your handbag with much gloating and smugness.
