to be a bit miffed that someone, who has no teaching qualifications, has set herself up as an eleven plus tutor charging 30.00 per hour?

YABU. As long as she's not lying about qualifications she doesn't have it doesn't matter. If she isn't any good the children will just leave anyway.

If you need coaching through the 11+ you won't cope at a Grammar school. I object to 11+ tutors on principle.

That is totally incorrect IMO. The questions asked in the 11+ need to be practiced as they are not something that is taught on the national curriculum. I had tutoring for my 11+ which I passed and I did fine at my grammar school.

the only thing you need to be an 11+ tutor is to find parents gullible enough to pay you!

I was tutored in one subject for the 11+, I got an A and went to one of the top grammar schools in the country and didnt really struggle in that subject despite it being my weakest subject (still is) and went on to get top grades and a good degree, so I wouldn't hesitate to get a tutor for my dc's in future if needed for one particular subject.

I don't see the problem in tutors at all, some people are just weak in some subjects and it shouldn't really hold them back in other subjects.
