I work 3 days a week Mon-Wed. I have a 3.3yr old DS and a 18 month old DD. After 4 days with both of them, AIBU to be excited at dropping them both off at nursery on monday morning? Makes me feel bad, but OMG just the thought of being able to go to work and sit down to have a cup of tea in peace and go to the loo in peace..it's fab.
Don't get me wrong, I love my DCs to bits and my heart thumps in delight on the way to nursery to pick them up, can't wait to see them, but I'd never have said pre DCs that I would be looking forward to Monday mornings!!

I don't know how SAHMs do it. I'm in awe of you all, I really am.

Me too - it's half term and I was a little Sad I don't have any time to take off this week. However after not even being able to have 5 min in the bath to myself this morning, after a 'bumpy' night with the baby, I was skipping to the CM this morning.

Haziedoll · 13/02/2012 12:23

Yanbu. You may look forward to the Monday morning drop-off but I bet you also look forward to the Wednesday pick-up too.Smile

Me too. Is a right slog getting DD 2.5 and DS 1.2 into their winter outdoor gear, bags packed, down the back garden, out the gate, propelling one by her hood and carrying the other, then two lots of car seats, defrost windscreen, drive, park, unload from car seats, propel down slidey icey slope to nursery, hand over to respective different key people amid wailing protests of abandonment.... But then.... Aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh the relief

Lambzig · 13/02/2012 12:26

YANBU As Haziedoll said. I think you have a nice balance.

I too work Mon-Wed at the moment, but absolutely hate my job and hate Mondays, so its fantastic that you feel like that.

Hope you have an easier day today HipHop. How old is your baby?

It makes it easier for me as they both seem to like being at nursery. When DD first started she would cry when I handed her over and I was constantly worried and sad all day long at work, so wasn't quite the same at the time, but now she is enjoying it and happily toddles off to her keyworker, I can go to work without feeling guilty.

I feel like this too. I buzz after work. Completely different when I've been home all day.

Although I feel like a terrible mother leaving my kids Sad

YANBU. I work Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and think of Thursdays as the start of my weekend! Because I have 2 days of work where I can drink tea and grown up conversations (I like my job) and then the weekend proper with DP on hand to share childcare and we can fun family things. I like working a broken up week as you don't get a long stretch of sole childcare or a long stretch of not seeing DC. Love, Love, Love DD but I'm not designed for the toddler stage, I'm just not.

Francagoestohollywood · 13/02/2012 12:43

YANBU at all.
I used to send mine to nursery 3 days a week, even when I wasn't working. And I didn't feel guilty at all!
It was alovely nursery after all, not a coal mine.

HipHopOpotomus · 13/02/2012 13:00

DD2 is 8 months.
Of course when I'm at work I think about them all day and rush to pick them up at the end of the day. But I admit I am relieved that they are already fed :)

They joy I get from DD2's squeal of delight & excitement as I arrive is priceless (DD1 4y pretends to be more ambivalent)

choceyes · 13/02/2012 14:31

oh yes, I love picking them up (although 5mins later I'm regretting it when I'm chasing them both around the nursery foyer trying to get their coats/jumpers/hats on). Both of them run into my arms and I end up having to cuddle them both at the same time.

I dropped off ds this morning, put him on the floor at nursery (standing btw) he ran off without even turning back to look at me or his sister. it was a bit like "Whatever" off to see my mates.

Dropped dd with her childcare (for half term) and left her in the tesco cafe happy as larry tucking into a pain au chocolat.

If they aren't going to miss me, then I am not going to feel guilty about dropping them off Grin

lynniep · 13/02/2012 14:36

i know what you mean! I have Weds and half day Thurs off.
I LOVE having an hours lunchbreak to do WHATEVER I LIKE, UNINTERUPTED! I can mooch around Tesco - and this is a treat when you havent got whining bored children with you - I can nip into town and wander around shoe shops. Its FAB!
DS2 LOVES nursery and dashes off the minute he gets there (I've given up offering him breakfast at home because he just wants to sit and eat it with his little buddies). DS1 is a typical stropmonster of 4, and is a bit of a nightmare to get to out of school club. When we collect him later though, he dESPERATLey wants to go back because its MUCH more fun than at home.
