I'm a rep for a well known cosmetics firm. They are bringing out a new mascara soon and suggest that reps use it on one eye and leave the other eye without makeup so 'that customers can see how fantastic your lashes look'.

Why would I want to walk around looking like an idiot?

Do they have any male reps?

worldgonecrazy · 13/02/2012 10:44

Why do they need to do that? Don't they know that women will fall for any advert or sales blurb in our quest for the perfect mascara. Surely a couple of leaflets and a sales pitch of "This really is the mascara that is going to make you look like you're wearing false lashes ....... yes I know we said that about the last mascara and the one before that, and the one before that, but honestly, this time we're not just saying it."

Grin Thats funny!

Please tell us what company this is!

But no, don't go around looking like a loon, that will not help you or the company make any sales. Surely you would need to use a different mascara to prove the point anyway, not no mascara at all!

agedknees · 13/02/2012 10:46

YANBU. Bet it was a man who thought of that sales technique.

Lueji · 13/02/2012 11:52

Just take a picture of yourself without mascara. Preferably life size.

OnlyANinja · 13/02/2012 11:53

I would actually much prefer all of these adverts (styled using lash inserts) to show me a woman's face, with the product on one side and not on the other.

I guess there'd then be a big demand for unevenly-faced models.

Bit mad to expect you to go around in real life looking like that though.

iseenodust · 13/02/2012 12:00

Hope it's a high fashion brand and so a brightly coloured mascara not just the usual black Grin

Your question is slightly wrong it's shouldn't be 'why would I want to go around looking like an idiot?' it should be 'why do they want to make me look like an eejit?

I work for a company that sells cosmetics and off my own back i have done this before as a fun way to hit sales and demonstrate how the product looks.
I have had nothing but positive feedback about this as women like the honesty and openness. It is also a talking point which when you are dependent on selling products can only be a good thing.
I think its different if you have been told you must do this.
