Jokes about death

I get fed up at seeing jokes roll in over the death of a famous person! Less than 24 hours after being informed of Whitney Houston's death facebook is full of jokes about it.

I couldn't help but challenge one and of course it's turned into a big argument, with their friends jumping in to defend this person (I'm in the wrong, of course). But I just think that it's downright disrespectful. At best, it's unneccessary.

Why do people feel the need to do this? Surely it isn't too difficult to just keep your mouth shut, even if you didn't like the person in question.

Is it just me?

I must admit that when my little brother died I used to speak of my big brother to people "...... my brother - the one who's still alive". It was a pathetic joke, but somehow made me feel better.

Sometimes joke alleviate pain. Probably not in the instances you're speaking of though.

These jokes about famous people though...do you not think that they make some people feel that the other jokes are okay too? The ones about babies like mine, like my friends child?

That man who was imprisoned recently for being an internet troll who targeted the families of dead teenagers, made videos of trains with one girls face on the front after she was hit by a train. He would find these jokes funny. And he would say there wasn't much difference between the 'joke' that theinets just quoted and what he did. It's funny right? It's just a joke, a funny video about a girl he never met.

Coping with your own personal grief by using your own black humour is very different to making up or repeating jokes about strangers. Those jokes haven't been told to help anybody cope.

Whitney's daughter won't be telling that joke to make herself feel better tonight.
