Or this an over-sexualised image advertising a girls top in the 6+ range?

This
DD is taller than average at age 5 and wears 6/7 clothes sometimes 8 - I know the age group for this particular range includes teens but even so I just feel that this image is just a little too much. AIBU?

Cant see anything wrong with it.. it is a teenage girl, who looks like a teenaged girl.. Confused

AnyFucker · 12/02/2012 20:29

I dunno

I don't like the pose in a teenage girl, either

Fragilistic · 12/02/2012 20:33

It's not wholesome
Which is what they should be aiming at given age range & fact they're M&S
This isn't Jane Norman we're talking about

FootprintsInTheSnow · 12/02/2012 20:33

I think it's fine.

The garment looks like something an early teen might wear to a party - and the pose looks like a teen being moody.

I think in this range they have to Market at the DC as much as the parents - so it's not realistic for every picture to be a 7 year old frolicking with a puppy dog.

WorraLiberty · 12/02/2012 20:33

I think she's just trying too hard to look like a 'cool' model

AnyFucker · 12/02/2012 20:34

Jane Norman went down the pan

thankfully

Fragilistic · 12/02/2012 20:35

And it is a teenage girl trying to be provocative or sultry or moody or to look 'evening'.

silverbay · 12/02/2012 20:36

Agree with OP. mouth open, eyes half closed, she's fingering the shoulder strap, it looks a bit porny to me.

Fragilistic · 12/02/2012 20:37

x-posts with Worra. Yes, it's trying too hard, and I don't think that's appropriate really

AF - I know Jane Norman went down the pan, but I couldn't think of any other brand as well known for being, well, tarty Grin

I'm not keen on that M&S picture. Would prefer a smiley, happy pose. It is a bit reminiscent of, as another poster said, the kind of sulky/sultry pose you'd expect from Kate Moss or someone like that. That kind of pose is irritating generally - and that's when it's adult models. On a child - even a teenager - as long as they are modelling clothes that aren't for adults I'd prefer to see a less cynical-fashion-world "we're so jaded" image.

AnyFucker · 12/02/2012 20:39

I woudn't dress my 5yo in that

and I wouldn't be happy for my 14yo to pose in that way

so epic fail, all ways really, for me

AnyFucker · 12/02/2012 20:39

and it would actually stop me from buying it

Fragilistic · 12/02/2012 20:41

Just looked at it again.

You know, if she didn't have her hand on her shoulder, I think it would just look a bit 'mardy teen'. I think that's where the overkill is.

SydneyB · 12/02/2012 20:47

Yes, that's it, it's the hand.

chocolategateaudeluxe · 12/02/2012 22:22

The pose is too sexual for a teen, she's got this "come hither" look...

As for the bikini for babies: That is pretty fucked up! the pattern, the colour, the fact that it's got a bikini top to cover - what? - non-existent breasts, thus drawing attention to them....

Yes, I was actually disgusted by that bikini. I wouldn't dress my 4 year old in one, let alone a 6 month old.

Megatron · 13/02/2012 06:56

I think it's just a bit of a rubbish photograph.

The top is what I would expect a teenager to wear but I would never buy it for my 5 year old (also in 6/7 clothes) as I think it's far too grown up for that age group.

I don't like what I consider to be grown up clothes on young children so that bothers me more than a sulky looking teenager. I don't see anything sexual about her at all, she's just a kid.

fatlazymummy · 13/02/2012 07:03

No nothing sexualised at all. It's just a sparkly sequinned top. So yes OP you are totally being unreasonable, among other things.

TroublesomeEx · 13/02/2012 07:15

OP I think the top is fine. It's a sparkly top.

I think her facial expression is rather suggestive. And rather reminiscent of Bridget Bardot. She's quite a young teen. I agree, it's not a 'wholesome' look.

nooka · 13/02/2012 07:30

My dd is also very tall and we found it hard to find dresses etc when she moved into the ranges that included teenagers at around about aged 7 because the clothes were a)not very nice and b)inappropriate. Now she is 11 I think she would consider gold sparkly tops as something she has grown out of. I would be extremely worried if she posed like that though because the pose and expression is adult in a passive/used/porn type way that I dislike enough when it's done by an adult, let alone a child.

PamPerdbrat · 13/02/2012 08:35

I don't like it. I don't really like the model's pose either; it's a bit pouty and old for her; rather Kate Moss!

Harecare · 13/02/2012 08:39

Looks more stroppy than sexy to me.

pigletmania · 13/02/2012 09:07

YANBU what is suitable for a 15/16 year old teenager is not necessarily suitable for a 6-7 year old child, which is what the age range of this top is.
