sorry another benefit thread

i was under the impression that when a child reaches 5yrs old and the parent is on Income Support they then move onto JSA and get help finding work, education etc

i found out today this is not the case YET and has not been fully voted by the goverment/lords so its still if the child is 7,the supervisor said it would be law this year and will go through,

I thought this was law and so have others

AIBU that i wasnt given the correct information before today, even the personnel advisior didnt know thats why we called the supervisor

Nah, round where I live they just get knocked up again and go back on IS.
(Just kidding)

IneedAbetterNicknameIn2012 · 09/02/2012 22:07

I was told at my lone parent interview in Dec that my IS stops in April when DS2 is 5 1/2, was that wrong then?

What difference does it make? You have the right to see an advisor in any circumstance and knowing the "help" given by most job centres you won't be missing out on much.

IDoNotLIKEFun · 09/02/2012 22:14

My sister and her friends have been told it's five years as fact too.

One actually has become pregnant again for this reason. Sister is ttc. I might ring her up and tell her to hold her horses Grin

Birdsgottafly · 09/02/2012 22:15

It still seems to be 7, nationally

thekidsrule · 09/02/2012 22:15

well my advisory didnt no !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so we got the supervisor and said its not goverment policy so they cannot move you onto JSA until its made law which it hasnt yet

i and others and also peeps on her think it is law,it is not, comes to something when the jobcentre arent sure and have to check

made a joke about capping and univerrsal credit lady said theyve been told nothing, pretty poor information

i for one will not be having anymore though i know some will, cats bum face

just thought people should know i was shocked

Birds did you mean what difference does it make to me going to college?

McHappyPants2012 · 09/02/2012 22:21

I always thought it was when a child reaches 1 in line with maternity leave

Birdsgottafly · 09/02/2012 22:24

No i meant why did you need to know. You are better getting any advice from a Welfare rights advice place, job centre advisors often don't know the answers to a lot of questions.

Most of what is being published about benefits are only in the consultation stage. They are testing the waters to see what they can get away with.

IneedAbetterNicknameIn2012 · 09/02/2012 22:26

Oh OK :)

Birdsgottafly · 09/02/2012 22:26

Mchappy- it used to be that you never had to move off IS, then they made it when your youngest is 12 and now it is 7, unless there are special conditions.

thekidsrule · 09/02/2012 22:28

have to confirm what bird said, advisor told me they have no idea whats going on,still shocked though they have given me the impression that was law now

It's 12yo for those whose dc are born before 2003. For those whose dc are born 2003 - 2010, it's 7yo. From April, it will be 5yo for anyone whose dc was born 2011 onwards. HTH. (it's not technically law yet, it will be from April)

KittyFane · 10/02/2012 08:09

What does it matter? When DC go to school most people are free to work. If they can't find work they claim JSA.
