to be annoyed that my six year old came home from school without most of her clothes?

DD is a bad dresser in general - usually takes her over 30 minutes to get dressed for school of a morning, but with a little encouragement, job's done.

She came home from school this afternoon without her jumper (not unusual, happens several times a week), but also without her pinafore. So, yes, she came home from school with only her shirt and tights on.

Apparently they had gym this afternoon, but had time back in the classroom afterwards and before coming home. She thinks she left it on the back of her chair.

AIBU to expect that the teacher should probably have noticed a half-naked six year old leaving the classroom today?

If she was wearing a coat, which was fastened up - and not a short jacket/anorak - then I doubt if I would've noticed when picking up from school gate, so totally understand why dad didn't realise. Quite surprised that a 6 year old didn't manage to put on a pinafore, or notice herself that something was awry!

At this age she needs to be responsible for getting herself dressed.

Why is she so bad at getting dressed? Does she have a physical problem?

6 yo girls can get so easily distracted it doesn't really suprise me that one could go home without her pinafore on, my DD doesn't stop chattering to her friends all day AFAIK so I'm suprised she hasn't done the same thing!
just reminded me about the time DS came home from school in his friends' pants after a swimming trip... it wouldn't have mattered so much if his friend wasn't about 6 inches taller than DS and quite a bit wider. Bearing in mind they went swimming first thing in the morning, he went all day having to hold his pants up all day & didn't notice anything was wrong...
I would have loved to see the look on your DD's teacher's face when she found the clothes Grin
YANBU to be annoyed but I bet your DD will learn from the experience.

I'm sorry but I am laughing my head off. The worst DS has done is come home in his pumps, he is a bit of a slow dresser as well.

His teacher did ask me once "Do you have a problem with him getting dressed in the morning". They also had an issue with him getting totally naked for PE.... Yes, he even took his pants off Grin

The reception teacher at our school does a speech at a meeting in July telling everyone what to work on over the summer before the kids start. She asks the parents to make sure the children can get themselves undressed but not all the way because she's had many, many years of asking a class to get undressed for PE and then be met with 30 totally nekkid 4 year olds Grin

Is there an element here of 'teaching a lesson'? My DC3 often comes out of school with his trousers on back to front, tie around his neck but not under his collar, collar up, shirt hanging out, jumper inside out - but he did it all himself Smile

My DS lost his shoes the other day!! I was rather suspicious that he had hidden them though so maybe not quite the same as your DD as he had been moaning about them. Luckilly they turned up 2 days later in a toy box!!
