To think that considering the weather, my Landlord should be trying harder to get our heating mended?

The boiler has broken. It did this last winter and the engineer said that really, it needs replacing.

We tld the Landlord 2 days ago and he has said he will call "His plumber"

He always does this...he has a stable of people he prefers to employ...which means we often wait for days until things are mended.

SO we have no heating for two days now and no hot water...I have a 7 year old and a 3 year old...they are fine but it's so frigging cold and I want a bath!

It's below frezing and I can see my breath. What can I say to him?

That is awful. Can you get any advice from citizen's advice bureau. What would be the legalities of you paying to fix the boiler than then deducting it from the next rent cheque.

Is there any possiblity of you moving out?

Your LL should be providing emergency heating while you wait for a repair.

Our previous and current LL did that when our heating broke down.

Contact the council and ask to speak to the Housing Officer. The conditions you are living in may well be in breach of regulations and actually define your house as unihabitable, especially if you have children.

I would have expected someone to be there in 24 hours or I would have got someone out myself and had it fixed and then deducted it from the rent. There is no way I would put up with having a cold house and no hot water in this weather.

but I'm stroppy me Grin

this might help wrt to the law

but really, he could be offering some sort of temp. alternative for heating at least. electric heaters etc..

MurmuringClothDoll · 09/02/2012 09:46

I,m so annoyed...I work from home and have to type for long periods and my hands won't work! I have tried fingerless gloves but they get in the way of the keyboard.

I will wait for DH to come home from the school run and get him to call and push it...last time we were like this for days and we all have colds.

I said to DH that they ought to have offered u some alternative and he rolled his eyes...he hates confrontation and I think that's why he always insists he deal with the landlord...because I am much grumpier and would get bolshy.

I've been without heating and hot water twice in weather like this when the boiler broke before. Once for a week and once for 4 days. Horrible!

I kept one room warm with an electric heater and heated water on the stove and in the kettle to do a bath. Took about 6 10 litre buckets to do a decent bath. If you have enough buckets they stay warm while you do enough to tip it all in at once.

I also went to the gym to use the shower

I had no issue with my landlord because he did get a plumber out straight away it just took time ordering parts and whatnot and then ending up replacing the whole boiler, so no idea of the law exactly but good luck!
