Googling is probably a bad idea, unless you stick to reputable sources like the NHS website. Try not to panic, it won't help. Maybe see if you can attend appointments if he'd find it helpful.

LingDiLong · 08/02/2012 22:19

Oh, I'm so very sorry :( I don't know what else to say...I do hope you have some good support in real life, and if you do make sure you use it. If I had a friend going through all that I'd want them to lean on me as much as possible.

aldiwhore · 08/02/2012 22:21

Oh Dumpling that's horrible news. Try not to Google too much. Its obviously not good news, but see if you talk to McMillan or your GP to find out prognosis, although it always hard to be sure how things will go.

Can I give you a (((hug)))? Its a horrible, horrible thing to hear and scary as hell, YANBU.

x

IUseTooMuchKitchenRoll · 08/02/2012 22:21

So sorry for you Sad

You need to stop googling. If you want information go straight to the Macmillan website or something simelar. It is better to find out information that will be personal to your Dad rather than terrify yourself with things that might not even apply.

If you need to rant and have someone just listen and understand while you work out your feelings, try phoning the Samaritans. You don't have to be close to suicide to call, you just have to be upset about something and you clearly are.

EauDeLaPoisson · 08/02/2012 22:22

Hugs. Google can only give a vague synopsis of illnesses and can lead you totally up the garden path, cancer is as individual as the sufferer. All my best wishes for your dad x

McHappyPants2012 · 08/02/2012 22:23

Don't google, the devils work.

Sorry about your dad bad news (((((((hugs)))))))

WorraLiberty · 08/02/2012 22:23

So sorry to hear this Sad

McMillan is a good idea as Aldi suggested

kelly2000 · 09/02/2012 01:33

Like others have said I would try not to google too much, unless you look for sites like cancer research macmillin etc.
Do not give out hope I had a friend who got cancer (inc bone cancer), and was told her body was so riddled with tumours she only had three months left to live - ten years one she is alive and well. I know she had some chemotherapy, and also went on a special diet where only "pure foods" were eaten. I am not a one for natural remedies so have no idea if this diet had any actual effect other than psychological, but I suppose healthy eating is never going to do any harm and maybe gives a feeling of control back.
Sorry to be annoying and give personal "i know someone" stories, but just wanted to let you know hope is always there.
Good luck to you and your dad, and remember if you ever need to talk everyone is here for you x

LilBlondePessimist · 09/02/2012 03:29

Didn't want to read and run. Just wanted to say sorry about your news and hopefully you have some support in RL x

Pudgy2011 · 09/02/2012 04:10

OP I'm so so sorry for your news. I know how you feel and the shock of hearing something that could possibly have such a massive impact on your life.
My younger darling brother was diagnosed with an unknown secondary cancer in his spine and lymph in April last year when I was 12 weeks pregnant and we found out last week that initial aggressive chemo didn't work and if the new experimental chemo they are trying doesn't work, he may only have a matter of months left.
I live offshore and so a 12 hour flight from my family in London and it is just horrendous to have to face this from afar, not knowing how to help.
Please please don't google as every case is different and your dad may be in with a fighting chance. As they say, don't put down your sword before going in to battle.
I know how hard things are to come to terms with when you have kids, I have a 4 1/2 month old baby boy and it's tiring enough without having to deal with such emotions that make everything a million times worse.
Please please call the McMillan nurses, they are going to be the best people to answer your questions. I know they also offer counselling to family members of those affected by cancer.
I will keep you in my thoughts xxx

What awful news, I'm so sorry. Please don't google any more - it really doesn't do anyone any good and worries you more. Perhaps you could try speaking to his doctor to find out more? They'll be more helpful I'm sure. Big hugs to you all.
