I'm such a softy... But I think once you experience a birth yourself you just can't help it. I'm so happy that baby Laragh an her mum are ok.

Yanbu. Sil had a very similar birth with dn. He was 10lb 4oz and still has problems with his arm now.

I was a teary mess watching it.

porcamiseria · 08/02/2012 22:08

it was scary!!!!!! poor mum, and when they had to recusitate that baby....NOT a good one for first time pregnant mummies to watch. but so pleased all was OK

shagmundfreud · 08/02/2012 22:13

Felt, so, so sorry for that poor couple going through that birth.

Experienced a s/d with my 11lbs ds. At home. Luckily my two brilliant midwives resolved it without doing any significant damage to me and bubs.

Have to say - I was looking at her at the beginning and think 'big baby'.

porcamiseria · 08/02/2012 22:21

it was pretty hardcore TV I have to say, god heart in throat
poor mummy

PinkPeanuts · 08/02/2012 22:24

Makes me cry every week without fail! Then again, I am 34 weeks pregnant and a big hormonal mess!

startwig1982 · 08/02/2012 22:27

I cried quite a lot but cry at things like Frozen Planet, so I'm probably not the best person to ask! I was sad to see the footage of the young girl's baby with a dummy, though. Only a few hours old and already, it's got a dummy. Sad

IneedAbetterNicknameIn2012 · 08/02/2012 22:27

I am in tears :(
Maybe I'm not cut out to be a midwife!

Alambil · 08/02/2012 22:30

what's the issue with the dummy?

I can barely watch the show since my nephew's birth 4 weeks ago, but I watched tonight...

Utterly horrific story tonight... scary

Got your judgy pants firmly up your arse there startwig!

Dawn was so, so brave, poor lady, after baby laragh came out i realised i hadn't taken a breath for about 2 mins! so scary.

Gorgi did well, her mum was lovely.

startwig1982 · 08/02/2012 22:38

Really? A dummy for a newborn? Hmm

poor dizzy, i never heard of it until tonight. fucking fucking scary

MogTheForgetfulCat · 08/02/2012 22:43

The baby looked perfectly happy with her dummy, why judge? Why not just think to yourself 'I wouldn't do that'. Don't you think that young girl is going to face enough judgement (young mum, baby's dad in the nick) without piling it on over something that just doesn't blardy well matter? FFS.

Oh, and back to the OP, I cried buckets. Heart-stopping stuff, so glad it had a happy ending.

wherearemysocks · 08/02/2012 22:45

I thought dummies were recommended now as a factor in preventing SIDS? I could be wrong but I thought was what was the thing now.

OTTMummA · 08/02/2012 22:46

My ds didn't have a dummy until 8 weeks, and then only at night, gave it up at 6 months.
I probably wouldn't give a newborn a dummy either, but it isn't child abuse fgs! it is a comforter, big deal, and for that to be the thing you felt most sad about and important to mention about this programme i find weird tbh!

recall · 08/02/2012 22:48

I wish my 3 would have had a dummy, and I am posh and 42 ! Grin

And it's young woman, not young girl ( patronising much ), i get the impression you wouldn't of even noticed a dummy in the mouth of an older womans baby. Hmm

MogTheForgetfulCat · 08/02/2012 22:52

Oops, I said young girl, too Blush - I think I was echoing. Or something...

recall · 08/02/2012 22:54

When my DD was 12 hours old, she had to have several heel pricks, and the consultant told me to stick my little finger in her mouth to suck on while they did them because it would comfort her. She then became addicted to my little finger and it drove me mad. I tried and tried to substitute my finger with a dummy but she wasn't having it, spent many hours stood beside her cot with my little finger in there, the skin used to go all wrinkly. I even thought about getting my finger cast and a dummy made of it. I was envious of my friends who used a dummy and then walked away.

IneedAbetterNicknameIn2012 · 08/02/2012 23:01

recall that sounds just like my DS1, we must have had the same HCP :)

gaelicsheep · 08/02/2012 23:07

No not unreasonable at all - amazing scenes.
