on a debt collection agency worker?

This is the second time this agency have phoned me to say I owe £900 odd quid for a Student Loan taken out in 2001. I don't. I wasn't a student in 2001 apart from anything else.

I explained this again to the woman who rang tonight. She became very stroppy with me. Eventually she came out with "Well I suggest you make a payment, or I (yes, "I" ??) will take you to court".

I quite like to say "I'll just get him/her for you now, hold on a moment" and then I leave the phone on the side. They'll usually wait a few minutes before giving up. I think that's a few minutes where they can't annoy other people.

You know, the older student loans (pre 2000 I think) are wiped if you've had them for more than 21 years.

I got my first student loan academic year 90/91. And to see that written down makes me weep. I am so old!!!!

I got a letter like this other day only it didn't say what it was for. DH gave me a script to stick to but I didn't, I got angry instead Blush

This one really threw me. I'm used to dealing with them - one where my old council fucked up but I eventually got proof from that borough's director that I wasn't liable. The others...well, ummm, I did owe the money but it had all just gone awry.

This one upset me. They had my name and first address here, but it was a supposed debt with a particular bank I've never had an account with. From 11 years ago. I don't know why it's upset me...maybe I'm just feeling a bit vulnerable. Anyway, I also had the advice to write back to them if they write again, saying the onus is on them to prove I owe it and I'll see them in court. But I'm still scared of that next letter I know is coming.

I don't know what's wrong with me! I used to be so tough :(
