To feel sad about this

DS was robbed AGAIN on Saturday (3rd time in a year). He now thinks it's just part of what teens go through these days Sad

poor sod.

what happened? mugged or someone went in his bag? What was stolen?

Is he taking all the usual precautions? - not letting his stuff be seen etc etc

Sad that we have to, of course. We should be free to walk round waving our stuff if we want to, but that's not the world we live in.

Can you get insurance for belongings that you carry round with you?

Correctmeifiamwrong · 06/02/2012 15:04

How old is he? Where abouts are you? What did they get? Did you speak to the police?

This is so wrong! A friends DS was robbed a few times - the last time, the thief handed his phone back because it was 'shit'.

Correctmeifiamwrong · 06/02/2012 15:05

sorry - was he ok?

lesley33 · 06/02/2012 15:06

YANBU. But sadly it does seem to be common these days for teenagers to be robbed for phones, etc. Makes me very sad and angry.

PosiePumblechook · 06/02/2012 15:06

Someone esle was talking about this the other day, in RL, it's awful.

[decides to move to the country post haste]

numbertaker · 06/02/2012 15:08

NO YANBU.

I am shocked, I have never heard of teens getting robbed like this. What by gangs, other teens.

What is going on with this sick society. Its not bloody, normal its criminal.

mojitomania · 06/02/2012 15:08

Hi Hectate.

He was walking along on the way home with another boy at 6pm due to having to be home by 6.30. The boys came up behind them, one of them put his arms round DS and pal, asked what phones they had etc., they didn't answer. Then threatened them to turn out their pockets or they'd glass them with a bottle which was shown to them.

Yes, we're insured.

The boy's have been caught though! Which is great. DS's pal's sister contacted the phone and the boy added her to the BBM! She got out of him what his name was, his facebook ID, how old he was and where he went to school!

NABBED!

I think it is what teens go through, and it breaks my heart.

numbertaker · 06/02/2012 15:09

Hurrah. It's getting to the stage you can't let your kids walk the streets.

mojitomania · 06/02/2012 15:10

We live in Fulham and it's rife here Sad

DS's friend was set about in a park last week at 4pm, robbed and beaten black and blue.

OP posts:
JustHecate · 06/02/2012 15:11

mugged.

Sad

Poor lad.

Selfishly, it makes me so glad we live in the arse end of nowhere where this sort of thing just doesn't happen.

I think it's even more sad because he just accepts it. Poor bugger.

I am thankful that he wasn't hurt.

lesley33 · 06/02/2012 15:11

We live in the suburbs in the north and has happened to both my DS a few times sadly

BertieBotts · 06/02/2012 15:12

That's terrible! Must admit I did smirk a bit at the thief giving away all his details etc...

It's a good idea to make a note of the IMEI number of any phone you have, BTW. You can find it under the battery. Means it can be traced by the police.

mojitomania · 06/02/2012 15:12

It does make you not want to let them out but they need to don't they. I've told him I'd take him from A to B etc. but he doesn't want me to now he's 14.

OP posts:
Laquitar · 06/02/2012 15:13

That's so sad and scary mojito. So sorry Sad

cuteboots · 06/02/2012 15:15

thank god he wasnt hurt.

ReneeVivien · 06/02/2012 15:16

Having said that, it happened to me a fair few times in my teens. And I'm older than the hills. Obviously, they weren't after mobiles back then - but I had the odd quill and abacus nicked.

mojitomania · 06/02/2012 15:19

Yes, Cute, that's a massive relief as it could have been worse.

What also makes me want to cry is DS said to me "I still had a good day though mum, it was snowing, I asked the girl out that I like and she said yes, plus my phone had a crack in it anyway."

He also goes to Sea Cadets most of the weekend and I pick up/drop off. Saturday is his only free day and he has to be home by 6.30pm, what else can you do huh.

mojitomania · 06/02/2012 15:22

Yes, Renee, I was robbed outside my school for my dinner money once. The cheeky bitch was wearing a fur coat an all! [laugh]

It just seems that it happens SO often now.

Going to get DS an alarm now that when pushed lets out a massive noise, maybe that would help.

OP posts:
Laquitar · 06/02/2012 15:24

You feel bad if you don't let them walk alone and you feel bad if you do Sad

Smile @ him asking the girl out.

mojitomania · 06/02/2012 20:13

Things have moved on somewhat. DS gave a statement etc. and now has to go do an ID parade. Boy at his school know one of the suspects and has told him he holds a grudge and will come after my DS. Now, this may be hearsay. I looked on the boys facebook page and him and pals are holding their hands in a cross over sort of stance to say they are members of some sort of thing. What would you do? Would I be able to ask the police if he is a member of some sort of gang?

OP posts:
JustHecate · 07/02/2012 13:54

Oh dear. Do you think he would be in any danger if he did this ID?

Talk to the police. Stuff isn't worth getting knifed over.

mojitomania · 07/02/2012 14:26

Hi Hectate

Spoken to police and told them he's not going any further.

Arranged with school for them to keep him there till i pick up for the foreseeable future.

DS not best pleased and thinks I'm mad but told him to just humour me for a while Grin
