To think that the people who have turned the footpaths into Alpine ranges are selfish and stupid

Why don't they pile the snow they have cleared from their drives onto their gardens, or against the hedges?
Why do they pile it up across the footpaths so that every 15ft there is a 2ft pile of compacted snow blocking the footpath?
It forces all the pedestrians, including those with prams, toddlers and the elderly, to walk in the road FFS.
And it takes longer to melt because it is compacted, so the mountain ranges linger long after the rest of the snow has melted.

OK - maybe I'll concede selfish or stupid. Fuckwits either way.

Here they pile it up by the edge of the road so it's really difficult to find a place to cross Sad

Saltire · 06/02/2012 09:48

At least it's cleared. DH cleared our front path yesterday. and one or 2 neighbours cleared theirs. But on the whole the camp (especially) and the village are still snow covered
However, it is easy to walk in, better than icy paths

piprabbit · 06/02/2012 09:49

Angry It's such an 'I'm alright, Jack' attitude. So long as they can get their cars onto the road, they don't give a toss about the rest of us.

Saltire, they don't clear the footpaths - just the bit they need to get their cars out of the drive. So we get icy, uncleared paths and mountains of snow that need to be clambered over (or walk in the road).

YANBU
All they care about is being able to get their car off the drive.
It doesn't seem to matter to them where the snow ends up.

Saltire · 06/02/2012 09:53

Ah right, i misunderstood, i thought you meant that the public footpaths hav ebeen cleared and the snow dumped at the side. Blush. sorry. It is annoying though, i agree with you

piprabbit · 06/02/2012 09:54

My fault for not being clear - I think the rant took over for a few minutes. Sorry.

You rant away piprabbit.
What annoys me is that they must know that they're blocking the pavement and forcing people into the road (in dangerous conditions), but just do not give a toss!

EssexGurl · 06/02/2012 11:43

I would much rather they kept the snow on the pavements and not build it up. Walking to church with DS yesterday, where people had walked on the pavements it was nicely compacted and easily walkable on. Then some people had cleared their drives and the pavement (lots of pavement clearning here!). Where the pavement was cleared it was slippery and DS of course had to dive into the snow mountain and got all wet. Not good for an hour in a draughty church.

lesley33 · 06/02/2012 11:46

My neighbour a few doors along, who I hardly know, cleared the path in front of 4 houses including ours. I don't actually kinow where they put the spare snow as I can't see any mounds anywhere.

lesley33 · 06/02/2012 11:47

And he did it properly so only pavement - no ice or small bit of snow left at all

SoupDragon · 06/02/2012 11:56

I cleared my drive yesterday. It took me an hour and a half to dig my car out because I had to pick DS2 up from the station. I only cleared enough space to get my car out, there is no way on earth that I was prepared to clear the whole pavement.

However, there is plenty of room to walk/push a pram through the gap in the mountains.

SparkyTGD · 06/02/2012 11:59

YANBU,

My neighbour helpfully piles the snow off his drive onto the path Angry

Had been told this but didn't believe it until I saw him do it myself.

Must pluck up courage to comment if I see him do it again.
