Sorry looking for quick response

Just changed ds' nappy and it looked like an avocado explosion - the green and the brown. Green I'm used to but not brown mucussy strings.

He's 4mo, is ebf, has reflux and is on gaviscon.

Both feeds over night caused a lot of distress, writhing, screaming etc which is unusual.

Would I be overreacting if I called the hv about brown poo?

I phone my hv about my dd's poo...she had the weirdest poo in the world. If you are worried, call them. Nothing worse than sitting on your own and worrying.

iirc, my DS's poo was always a sort of orangey-brown, peanut butter consistency at that age, he was EBF too, and only poo'd about once a week. However, if you're worried defo call the HV that's what they are there for.

green and mucousy can be a fore/hind milk imbalance, have you tried block feeding?

biddysmama · 06/02/2012 10:29

Do you have a breastfeeding supporter? they usually know more about poo than health visitors

Don't normally post on AIBU, but just wanted to tell you that my DS2 had mucus in his nappies a while ago & I went to HV, who said it was from teething & it was fairly common. And, lo & behold, his first tooth turned up not long after & the mucus nappies stopped!

Having said that, if you are unsure, definitely phone your HV, that is what they are there for & they will probably tell you to ring your GP if they can't help or if it sounds untoward.
