Sciatica is a no go?! Wtf? Can anyone medical or sciencey explain??

I can't - I've tried and tried. Can't give blood as I have had a number of transfusions over the past 20 years. Can't go on the Anthony Nolan register as I'm 41. Forty fucking One, it's ridiculous, I would love to be able to help someone somewhere if I can.

Beyond - I've been told no because I had one isolated episode of it years ago. I asked the question in the Q&A they did. Apparently it's because if you do end up donating they have to do some kind of operation near that nerve. Very silly if you ask me, surely an op like that could set off sciatica in anyone not just those who have had it before. :(

I did some googling about sciatica and donation of bone marrow after being refused for that reason - apparently there is small a risk of sciatica for all donators, as you say Lubey, but the risk increases if you've had it before. Buggering annoying.
